I've just ordered some speakers for my Zed. 6"x4" for the rear and 6.5" for the front.

I intend to use the existing speaker cables and have already bypassed the rear speaker amp with the existing wires. Is there a great deal to be gained by installing new thicker speaker wires???

The speakers I've bought are Alpine SXE-1725S (front) and SXE-4625S (rear) which are not top quality. I did this purposely as I don't want to have a mobile disco. I love listening to loud music and have a definate inclination to turning it up until the speakers start to show distortion. I'm hoping that the new ones will be better than the stock speakers. I'm sure it can't be worse as my rears have ripped themselves from their paper edging and the front are just crap. Mind you I don't personally believe in spending masses amount of money on incar entertainment as I don't spend much time travelling and I'm a believer of central position for perfect viewing and listening pleasure. I'm one of the annoying ones who always has to sit exactly on centre near the back in cinemas.

If I had a Mclaren F1 then I would spend serious money on incar audio. Mind you the F1's engine and exhaust might be more pleasing to the ear.

Cheers for the advice. Are there any simple/easy routes to run the new wires?

The front wires must go through the inside door pillar, where the stock ones fit.

The rears can come from under the back seats, then tucked under the plastic side kick plate.

Big ice systems are not my cup of tea,I just wanted mine to sound better than stock, all I have is a Pioneer OEL head unit, multiplayer and Focal speakers with cross overs;)

Like I said in my previous post upgrade the speaker wires for a better sound.

You may have some problems with feeding the wire into the front door panels. It can be a pain in the ar$e sometimes.

But well worth it!!

Just don't skimp on the cable, use decent Oxygen Free copper cable, 2.5mm2 (supposed to be squared) is the minimum I would suggest, don't want to do it twice now!!

When I did mine (with a lot of help from Vijay), I had a lot of resistance issues with the original wires. I used some QED Micro cable and it sounds fine. Not too thick/rigid to thread through the doors, but thick enough to carry the signal. The cable debate has been done to death and loads of people have different views about it. I'd just say, from personal experience, that it's worth replacing the old wiring with something slighty thicker and better shielded. As long as the wire's thick enough to carry the signal and can repel interference you're laughing!

Cheers,

Russ.

Cheers for the advice guys.
