My electric aerial isn't working, so decided to take of boot trim to get to it. Found a load of wires. One section connected to a little black box, about the size of a pack of 10 fags, another section connected to a white box about twice the size.

What are these and what is their function. I ask this because as I moved them both water poured out! Whatever they are supposed to do they won't do anymore. I tried taking them apart - the black box appears to be a sealed unit, the white box contains a small circuit board.

I need to know what they are so if necessary I can replace them.

Thanks for your help on this.

One of them's the in-flight data recorder, isn't it?

I think the black box in question is the 'bulb out' warning circuit. When one of the bulbs blows on the rear clusters, this box detects it and puts a light on on the dash to warn you ;)

White box??? Not sure tbh...

As Andy says the little black box is the "stop and tail lamp sensor". You don't need to worry about this unless you have lights out. It only controls the reverse, brake and tail lights (don't think it touches the indicators though).

Haven't not seen this white box though so can't help you there.

But why you have water pouring out is beyond me !!!

I THINK so don't hold me to it, the white box is the aerial control relay. Your water may be coming from the aerial or aerial seal to the wing, check the water drain pipe at the bottom of the aerial for blockages.

Doesn't the bulb out box have it written on it??

Nope on both of my Jap 300zx's it is just a plain sealed black box. Maybe UK spec's are different as they may include the rear fog lights.

Mine's a Jap, perhapse it's only the Gunmetal Grey ones that have it written on!!

Might be on a sticky label stuck to the side but it definately has it written on it.

Never mind, we all know what it is now.

Thanks guys

The aerial isn't working, so the white box could be the reason why. I'm not sure how the water got in, I am checking all the seals around the light cluster and the aerial to find any leaks.

Thanks for your help again - invaluable as ever!
