i don't know how many of you are in the z club but can somebody tell me why there seemed to be more z club members parked outside of trax today than the measly five parked inside. every club seemed to have lots there today and we were only allowed five. wots the deal.

i don't think hardly any of us are actually in the Z club and judging by the crap turnout inside, as you say, we should do something about it for next year.

Either join up en masse, or start our own. I think we already have enough regular contributors here to warrant the latter.

Then i can look at getting our own area at Trax next year. If there is interest, i will start organising it. Get our own track time as well...

Isn't the Z club more offically about pre '90 Z32's ?

Yeah Im up for joining the club, either en masse as you say or a seperate 300ZX club. May give us some clout with insurance companies etc etc.

lol.. just read my post, and noticed me showing off my Z knowledge.... pre '90 Z32's !!

you know i meant pre '90 Z's !! dont you ?

We managed to get a sort of club deal on insurance Mark, but at the moment, it only applies to UK models, not imports.

This is a problem that the underwriters are sorting out.

See the earlier insurance thread for names and numbers.

i recon we should start our own club, great idea craig.

ill start one in south africa and since ill be the only memeber i can do as i please lol.

get the ball rolling we need more meets over there especially when i get back.

cheers

Yep. I think we have been shafted by the Z Club. My vote is to start our own club and get TRACK TIME..

I personally think there is nothing nicer than watching a Z32 with its ass out on corners.

Here`s to the Z Hooligans.

TOOLEY are you listening.

Nice to meet some of the forum guys. Jez, Craig, Dave etc.

Cheers.

S`cus my ignorance, but wot do you mean by Z32`s? Is this different to the 300ZX TT?

So who`s gonna organise the club then!?! :) LoL!!

Craig, I read the threads re insurance, phoned em all up and they were all toss wot with my car being an import...Apparently they have thinner body panels than the UK spec cars so the personal injury claims are higher..?! I think this is total utter toss but am yet to find anyone who can tell me with any authority wot the difference is between UK and Import (except the tinted glass?) I cant imagine than the Nissan would spend millions setting up a production line and then change it all to save a few pence per panel for a different market...

Why are imports so frowned upon? My dealer tells me that the engine is identical and the only difference is probably trim etc. SO that justifies the extra 400 quid between UK and Import eh? I HATE insurance companies! Dont get me started!

The Z32 is the internal Nissan model number for the 300ZX.

Look at your chassis number.

Sunny's are B23, B14, B15 etc

Silvia's are S13, S14, S15 etc

Z cars are Z31, Z32...

Mark, did you check with insurance with Admiral and Privelidge ?

As i said, i know they are having a price war at the moment on imports.

Is your car still standard ? Or have you made modifications ?

While were all talking about forming a club and insurance when I was in the National street rod association I had my 5.7 ford pop

insured through them with a company called Ian Frey & co for £161 fully comp unlimited miles with any mods.they based the premium on value of the car not engine size(just as well!)as they are cherished cars (just like our zed's)

If we were a club maybee we could get a similar deal with them.

If they insured my V8 pop with almost no brakes or roadholding then our cars must be a good risk(maybee with the exception of tooley).

I hope theres an event a bit further North sometime so I can meet a few of you

Newcastle may produce the finest of beers and football but were a bit short on car shows..

See ya

Paul

Craig

Cheers for the info!

I went through tons of brokers, privilidge couldnt beat my existing insurer (who coincidentally are starting to specialise in imports) and with the money that I would have lost through cancelling my previous insurance I stayed where I was.

As far as I know the car is standard - although the exhaust is a large single pipe per side. I thinkk its standard as its made from steel just like the rest of the pipe. I havent looked to hard for other mods incase I scare myself! I wanted to keep it standard for a year until I can afford to mod it!! HA HA HA!

Should we post a new topic on the subject of our own club, rather than under this existing one, to see how many others are interested?

Mark,

that is not standard exhaust if it is single exit each side. Steel or not. :)

You ought to investigate further, just to satisfy yourself what you have....

It doesn't take long to check the easy things:-

ECU behind passenger footwell (a couple of screws)

intake behind front panel (two screws)

boost mods (feel along some pipes under the bonnet)

Someone else on here found out their car had been modified when they visited my place the other weekend :)

As far as club thing goes, is UK Nissan Twin Turbo Owners Club too restrictive for the NA people, or don't they mind being lumped under that banner ? Sounds a bit better than Z32 club :)

I don't know.. it all sounds a bit boy racer-ish to me... lol

Craig

Terrific! Well that gives me a nice dilema then. Do I tell my insurance company (bearing in mind it is an import and what do I tell them as I havent a clue what make it is!), do I fit standard back boxes (as one of them is starting to blow slightly) or do I got the whole hog and fit an aftermarket one anyway!

I have just changed the air filters and that IS standard as the Nissain service parts were identical to the filters I removed. I will investigate the boost mods and ECU. What exactly am I looking for though?

And wots wrong with boy racers anyway?! I bought mine to try to and delay middle age!! LOL!!!

you will have to get a proper look underneath to find out what sort of centre configuration you have.

whether you have the standard centre box, an x or h pipe, or none at all.

i have two standard back boxes sitting in a garage if you want to go with stock.

i took them off last year, but the last time i looked they was nothing wrong with them at all. they are in peterborough, and i'm sure we can work out something.

most insurance companies will not increase your premium for stainless exhaust though, as a lot of them are cheaper than standard replacement.

one of the main reasons for me buying an import apart from the fact i got one for half the price of a uk spec version was the fact that you can plead a little ignorance with an import version with regards to mods.

im gonna mither jonny again about setting up a club for us newer boys as its about time we were catered fo a bit more. if you look in the new z club mag we make up nearly a quarter of all the members. i will gladly help with anything that needs to be done in the setting up of a new club if all its needs is a few volunteers

I know that this is going to be a "Long" answerd question...

But what are the differances with the Z32 vs Import, Cost engieen ect...?

The Z32 is the current 300ZX, whatever country.

UK vs import...

The differences... not many, certainly not thinner pannels like I read earlier, now that's funny.

The main difference is that fact that you pay less for an import, pay more for insurance and would have more of a risk about it's history. But plenty of people do it without problems.

The other minor differences include a KPH speedo depending on what country it came from(which can be easily changed) and if from Japan the speed limiter and cruise control limit is a lot lower (until you update it with a chip or whatever). A few other minor things, like front/rear bumper light configuration, lack of rear fogs, the odd different part. The other things probably aren't worth mentioning?

BTW - Shouldn't that club be called 300ZX.CO.UK ???

Also, most imports have lower mileage hence (usually) better condition than UK examples.

Leather trim's are hard to find on imports. UK spec had leather as standard.

Andy

Craig,

I`ll pull my boxes off when I get a chance, and then drop you an email if I need yours! :)

Club name of 300ZX.co.uk actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it! I`ll volenteer for "club" duties if it helps...I know next to shag all `bout the zx at the moment, but Im sure I`ll learn....!

It also strikes me that if we did start our own club we could bulk buy common parts from the best sources and make them available to club members at realistic prices. I read somwhere on this forum that someone was talking about spark plugs in South Africa being 1.50 or something??? We should exploit that!!

I know what you mean about pleading ignorance re the build state of an imported car - but Im sure the insurance company would win in the end.

Hi Mark, yep, those are cheap spark plugs, but I really do think you should stick with NGKs (as supplied by Nissan). They are used on the the most highly spec'ed 300zx and nothing else is yet that proven on a 300.

If you order from the states get the right length for the TT and the US cold version (normal in the UK... number 6 heat range)

jez those plugs i speak of are ngk plugs original from nissan south africa.

they are the equivelant of pfr611.

i am holidaying in south africa at the moment and things are cheaper over here by a long margin.

if you guys want me to find out anything from you, i can.

the reason things are cheaper here is that they dont have dutieas to the far east.

chat to you later

ps the plugs are 3 pounds each and for

racing plugs they are about 9 pounds each
