whats this thing i've broken?

drive3.jpg

the joint in the small rubber gaiter that comes out of the HICAS system (i think?) just to the left of the centre of the page has gone on my drivers side.

you can get about half an inch of movement in it, and therefore in the wheel as well. explains why my car felt like it was going to skip off the road everytime i hit a pot hole!:D

does any one know how much this part is and where i could get it from?

cheers chaps!:D

p.s. thats not actually my car, just the best picture i could find of the bit!:D

That would be the inner balljoint that just so happens to have the HICAS arm attached to it.

Think my records show those having costed about £150 each side, fitted I think!

is the ball joint the bit in the rubber gaiter or is it closer to the wheel mate?

If it turns out to be the one nearer the wheel I got the part no. here as I bought one the other week.

james, is the bit you bought the part right next to the wheel on the picture attached to the rubber gaiter by the thin metal bar. if so that isnt the part i need i dont think. they come as seperate parts dont they?

how much was the part aswell mate?

hope that terrible description makes sense to you!:D

Yeah-that is the bush I needed, the one you described. It was about £50 IIRC.

cheers james, sorry to be thick but what is IIRC?

LOL!!! I was asking the same thing the other day..........

If I Remember Correctly.

.......now there's no stopping me using it......IIRC!!! ;) :D

I think James is referring to the bit at the thick outer end of the arm - actually the bush fitted to the hub carrier - you meant the ball joint at the inner end inside the bellows gaitor that has the thin part of the arm attached to it

its about £50.

get it from Mike Feeney at MJP 01277 374201. he's not too far away from you either - hes in essex.

doddle to fit too ;)

dont forget to have a 4 wheel alignment done after

Ah Paul!

Stu was saying you'd fitted this and said it was easy to fit???

Did you strip the rear wishbone down and take arm off? I'll agree it would be easy then....but not in situ!!

no, you dont need to strip anything.

remove the split pin & nut from the hub joint & press the outer part of the arm off with a ball joint splitter, then remove the 2 boots, lock up one side & unscrew the other.

not sure why you think its hard in situ??

yeah thats right will

is that still the part you was talking about paul? cheers for the help on how to fit it aswell mate! :D

thats the bugger!

cheers paul, so about 50 squid and would you say bout an hours work?

out of interest is the tension rod bush in the cylindrical thing about an inch above and to the left of the red circle on the picture.

just wondering cos ive heard that if they go they can make the handling go a bit vague aswell. check for an oily goo isnt it if the bush has worn out?
