It appears as though a previous owner of my zx has had some sort of tv/ice install going on in the car. I can see loads of wires going under the rear seats and i wondered how do i get the seats out, or just lift them - so i can see wha is under there! I also wanted to see if the rear belts had been tucked away under them - not that they are any use!!!

If it's like mine (Jap import) then the seats just pull up at the front off a couple of clips.

you have to take the back rest of the seats off first (4 bolts holding it in place). Pull the seat down and undo the bolts then just pull the base of the seat up (may need a bit of a tug, but it will come up).

NOPE!!! Not at all ;) The clips get stuck. You certainly do not have to remove the back part of the seat. If they are really jammed get a crow bar as close as possible to them and lever the base up. You can find the location of the clips by pulling up on the front of the seat in various places - its quite flexible so you can feel where its stuck, if you get the picture.

Hey shut it you said you had to remove the back seat :p:D Sometimes quite a lot of force is necessary and its better to lever next to the clip than to risk ripping the seat ;)
