Well boys and girls, after nearly 2 years of Z ownership, by baby let me down and it was all due to me putting off some regular maintenance that I should have asked Jeff to do before Xmas.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, the fan belt snapped, the dash lit up like a xmas tree and before I knew it, the temp was going through the roof. Managed to pull over within 5 seconds of noticing the high temp so I hope nothing else is broken or bent.
Funny thing is, just before I pulled over, I spotted something fly out behind me but thought nothing of it. Opened the bonnet and it wasn't till I mentioned to Jeff over the phone that there were funny strands everywhere that he said "Is your fan belt still there?" that I noticed a shed load of strands around the neck of the fan and the realized that what I saw behind me, was infact the belt making a sharp exit.
After arguing with the recovery guy(after the initial visit from the RAC) I managed to arange for the car to get taken to Zedworld. I thnk Jeff finally took receipt at about 9.30pm.
N.B. I have been a memebr of the RAC for the past 5 years and whenever I have been without my car, I have never asked for the free hire car(purely cus' I never remembered to) so decided to ask this time. Got a phone call back after 10 minutes saying that there was a car available for me at Derby, However, the flat bed driver would not drop me off so I had to catch a train and then a taxi. I'm sure they should have taken me so will be speaking with the RAC shortly.
Anyway, let this be a lesson to you all wondering whether to go for some toys or a good service. My zed is normally completely up to spec when it comes to maintenance but obviously the anciliaries caught me out this time. NEVER AGAIN!
Happy Zedding!
