i only caught the last bit on the news, said something bout new laws to allow police to fine people (i think?) for meeting up with cars, like at southend?

The news story I saw was about Sutton. They showed some kids on mopeds doing wheelies in the town centre and talked about cars racing, including up the Mad Mile.

Apparently they've been impounding cars. They said the new law came into force yesterday and the Met and Surrey police have joined forces to catch people!

The sea front [southend] has been restructured so it is difficult to "cruise" down there now.

I think the thing to stop is the rudeboys with all their modifications and no insurance for them, the people driving without liscenses, the arseholes wheelspinning their novas up and down the gravelpit.

The seafront is meant to be a venue for families, instead its full of pissed up 14 year olds and xr2's with exhausts I could fit my head in, cars driving in a circle do not make money for the businesses down there. Once every few months they should close the place down and have an organised cruise if so many people like it.

oh yeah i forgot you lived there mike!:D

it must get pretty annoying. a lot of the cars there are s**t boxes driven by pikies. i have met some decent people down there tho. do you ever take your car there. ive only ever seen a few Zs there, like you said mostly xr2s and novas!

I sometimes drive down in the afternoon when the sun is out to kill some time,

there are some top motors down there and some cool people but its not my cup of tea anymore. Police usually shut down the roads at around 11 which generally means possibility of overheating in summer grr.

good point, i'll have to watch out for that in the summer if i go. aint been in ages either, bout 6 months i think.

next time i go i'll give you a shout just in case you happen to be going too, would like to see another members Z, dont think i'll be able to make many of the meets as most of them seem to be more north than me!:(

I went there only once and saw just one Zed :(

yeah ive only seen a handfull there.

that reminds me, last time i was there i spoke to a bloke with one cos i was looking for advice on them cos i was thinking of getting one and i havent checked if he's a member yet. do you know of anyone on here with a silver auto TT, with an impul full kit and a silver impul sunstrip.

if you ever feel like going then let me know. we should try and get a mini Z convoy to go down. Race some novas:D ;)

i'd love to mike!

trouble is i'm halfway through my A levels as we speak (reminds me, i should be revising;) ) plus my cars gonna be off road for a while. think a bearing in my passanger side turbo has given up the ghost: terrible noise and smoke gallor :(

next one definitely count me in!:D

LOL!! i feel like i live in the bronx now mike!! :p

This has been happening in Avon & Somerset for months.

People get handed notices at cruises that their registration has been added to a database, if they are found at a cruise again their cars can be impounded.

Also the police have been taking photos of people engine bays and checking with their insurance companies to see if their mods are unclaimed.

I think that the main people they target are people who are behaving like tossers, but it's a thin line between parking up near some moddified cars and actaully being part of a cruise.

So we get Weston Wheels, in the hope that people won't want to cruise.

Talking about Weston, supposed to be going to Weston today with a lady friend ;) Is Weston, Zed friendly or is the whole place one big speedbump due to all the boy racers?

yo i was up south end last night (14th june) in my white zx,

i saw another white one and a silver one up there!

was it any of u lot by any chance, im sure ive seen pics of the white one on here b4.

was well busy last night.

ive never known the police to shut it off thou,

never have any of the times ive been there :s

basildon is quite fun to watch as well afterwards.

of course i make sure im parked well off the road as there is a few crazy ppl down there!

anyone else go at all?

The way I see it, there are people who are out socialising. Some people call them but they generally stay out of trouble. However when they start doing Dough-Nuts and racing down the street they deserve any trouble they get.

init man i feel ya,

but at the end of the day ppl dont buy a fast car to drive slowly do they/we.

and most ppl dont have access to a track or private road, so theres nowhere else to drive fast but the streets.

ya feel me?

Driving at 30 in a 30 isnt driving slowly. Driving at 60 in a 60 isnt driving slow. Some people drive at certain speeds just because its faster than they should go. We have all had people over taking up in a 30 zone while we are doing 30, but they still do it when I'm going 60 in a 60 zone. Its not about speed its about twats wanting to go faster than every one else. And it also seems the slower the car is the faster they feel they have to go.

driving at 30mph anywhere is slow if ya in a hurry murry.

depending on the road of course

i just drive at a speed i feel comfatable doing on that particualr road

like on alot of motorways, u can comfatably do 100mph and if theres noone about theres not really any more chance of having an accident than if u were doing 70.

i generally drive my mondeo quicker than the zx anyway cos i'd be alot more pissed off if i crashed the zx, plus petrol and stuff.

do u never race anybody?

or do u race up to the speed limit then stop dead at that speed lol

yeah i know what ya mean about the slower cars wantign to drive faster,

i find it interesting to see how fast fast cars can go, like zx, supra, scooby, evo etc, i like to see them race,

buts its pointless when u see novas and the like caning up and down at like 80mph or what ever (like at basildon lol)

i mean nearly all cars will do that speed if given enough run up so its hardly impressive..

[rant]Sorry to be a bore and get back on topic..... it's the Police Reform Act 2002 that is the new legislation which to be honest extends to more than just the 'Cruisers'. If your car (or several cars, it needn't be just one) is 'causing, or likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public' the Act can apply to you and your car may be 'seized' ! For those of you with a little more interest, here's a link to Chapter 2, Section 59 0f the Act in all it's glory. such a shame to think that if your loud exhaust/sounds system, or gathering of one or more cars pisses off ANYONE, ANYWHERE, there is now a new book that can be thrown at you. Sounds extreme doesn't it !! It is ! [/rant]

Back to your coffees ! lol

Reform Act Link

From reading that reform, it states the Police officer has to give you a warning first before he can take the car, So if some tw*t gets a warning and still has his stereo blasting then more fool him.

just blame 2fast2furious as a bad influence :D :D

I don't think you can blame the film, Boy racing has been like this in Sutton for at least 10 years.

Plus blaming films is a poor excuse for silly behaviour.

I mean when people saw fight club, did that make go out and fight each other or when people see a film that shows people killing each other does that people walk out from the cinema and kill someone???

People are grown ups and make their own decisions.

We drive fast cars, so in due course we will tend to break the speeds limits from time to time, but should we get our cars taken off us is the question,

or if we decide to have a pub meet, then some old twa*t who likes to drinks old ale doesn't like us in the pub decides to ring up the police and say that we are annoying him is it right for the police to take our cars then?

what happens to the cars anyway?

do they get destroyed or auctioned off or what

I don't have a problem with meets or cruises if people just go to look at the motors and chat.

It's when you get morons doing burnouts, doughnuts and driving at insane speeds through city centres I get pissed off.

I hope the morons lose their cars and they get crushed by the police.

That would pretty much cure the cruise problems.
