I've recently put a new steering wheel boss on, which was a pain in the arse to fit. I ended up taking all the old boss/electronics off and re-fitting the plate with the 3 contacts only. I then realised that each electrode controls something different and the contact plate on the end of the boss only contacts with the middle electrode only. I rewired it thinking that they were for the cruise control only, so that the middle electrode was for the horn. The very first sharp corner i came to the HICAS light came on.

 

Now i need to know how i'm supposed to fit the boss properly, and also which way round the wires went to set them back to normal.

 

Can i still drive round with this light on or not???

Stu,It's got nothing to do with the wires,you have not fitted the steering wheel on straight;)

Bugger!! How do i sort that out then? When the wheels are straight, and i'm driving down a straight road, the steering wheel seems in line.

Did the boss you buy have a black plastic disc with a square cut out on the back of it?

no. just the boss, fixing screws and cover.

sorry didn't read the message correctly. The boss was just straight through. 6 fixing holes on the front and a circular contact plate on the back. But it did have 2 hexagonal locating studs, about 25mm long on the inside of the plate at the back which i couldn't figure out.

 

Have i been given the wrong one?

When you took off your old steering wheel,you should have been left with a black plastic disk that turns? don't tell me you have taken that off?

 

That controls the hicas,then the new boss has a plastic disc on the underside that locates into the two tabs.

sh1t! yea i completley dismantled the old boss. But the new one didn't have any plate on with tabs, just the two long metal hex studs. I've phoned up RSM where i bought it from and they said its the only one momo do, and that sparco only do one as well thats basically the same.

Its the wrong one then:( you need to get one from Japan.

I got a boss from Smithy,fitted a treat with the Momo Race wheel,with cruise buttons in the centre cap,(on Z i sold to Pete)give him a ring,he may be able to get ya one;)
