Today i have at long last put the Jwt eprom into my AUTO ECU after removing the stock eprom....I am very pleased with the results...Unfortunatley not too pleased that some people on this forum told me it would not work???

fortunatly my experiance as a mechanic may'd me believe otherwise....

And so after pluging in and simply going as you say....thats all it took ..now i have the first Zed auto tt running on a manual jwt chip....:)

It may have come off a manual car (or Andy may have made a mistake), but that doesn't mean that it didn't originally come off an auto! What does it say on the sticker?

Glad that it worked for you though.

Could imagine the manual chip doesnt have the routine in it to retard the timing on upshifts to soften the gearchange so maybe it wont feel as smooth on gearchanges but cant think anything else is so affected that it wouldnt work at all.

Not sure but doesnt the auto ecu talk to the engine ecu to do this.

Still the different turbos and camshafts must change the tuning characteristics auto/manual a bit but maybe not as much as people think.

That's most interesting.

I was under the impression that it might not work as there is additional code on an auto chip to talk to the autobox controller and that the fuel maps are slightly different from a manual.

But if it works it works. Excellent!

My understanding was that the manual chip has an extra map for top gear, maybe it's just that it isn't used in the auto chip .... will have to do some more research.

it did come out of a Manual dett ecu...And the gearchanges are smooth so its quite handy that it works....i think...

Auto chips have a 5th gear map too, but in stock and JWT the 5th gear map and the normal map are both identical (so is the det map in JWT!)

I think the difference is in the code section of the ROM, but I've never dissasembled it for a look.

If you're interested in looking at the maps etc. I did an excel spreadsheet that will pull out all the useful stuff and show it in a useable way (i.e. TP translated to pulsewidth etc.) There's an old verison in my rides section but I've done a new one which writes the changes back, allows you to cut and paste maps etc. PM me if you want it.

Last time I looked, the code's the same between auto and manual, but there's some additional data below (I think) the map area. It's definitely not code tho.

I need some other code-junkies to have a look at my rough disassembly.

I dont think there is a special map for the 5th gear.

There is nothing that tells the ECU that the car is in 5th.

There definately is a 5th gear map, I'm presuming there's a sensor on the box to say the car is in 5th, or maybe it knows from the revs/speed relationship?

Isn't there just a "high-gear" map (pair of maps) that works for 4th and 5th, or 3rd and overdrive in auto? Or am I just confusing everything (even more)?
