hi guys,

found out that my car is running 13-14 psi. i want to improve running and performance. now do i get a jwt chip , a se chip or do i fit an afr. i have spoken to several different companies who are all trying to get me to by their goodies. just thought i would ask you guys for feedback and advise as you probably have these things fitted to you zeds. i don't know the advantages and disadvantages of these mods. please help as any advise will be welcome.

What mods have you got so far?

mods done so far to engine are. custom hayward and scott full exaust system. decated . and hks super flow air filter. not played with boost myself. but recently fitted boost guage and found 14psi boost. don't want to cause damage by running standard fuelling.

Is your car auto or manual ? I have some chips for manuals and none of these cost anything (other than the chip itself) and nor is the code stolen.

I would go for a boost controller if it were me and heard excellent reports on afr's!

There's no need to apologize......thats quite a nice spec. LOL

You might find your timing's been retarded at the crank angle sensor to cope with higher boost (prevent detonation up top). Really, you want this back to standard and the ECU retarding timing when it's necessary. As AndyP mentioned, there's free ECU code around to do this. It's what SE and JWT (everyone apart from Superchips, apparently) do to start with.

 

For the sake of a few quid, and soldering an IC socket in your ECU (piece of p*ss), it's got to be worth having a go. As long as you're sensible (don't drive around with a ton of pinking) you're not gonna blow your lump up.

 

Of course, someone specialist like SE will probably do a better job making you a custom map because they've got the equipment and experience to map for your mods. And you'll get a power figure and plot at the end of it.
