My Z has failed the MOT at my local grease monkey on the following:

No Rear Fog Light - The guy couldn't find the switch! Derrrr.

Both Front Tie Bar Bushes Split - Told me they did one of these recently and it was a ridiculous price. He's getting me a quote together. What price are the bushes and what's involved in changing them?

Fuel Leak - I knew about this and traced it myself tonight to save cash. It's the rubber pipe leaking at both ends that is directly beneath the throttle cable pulleys at the front of the engine under the Nissan plastic cover. Seems to join the fuel rails that do a U-turn between both banks of the V. Needs replacing but looks like lots of other stuff might have to come out to change it. Anyone changed this and what's involved?

Help much needed to save me $$$

Not sure what the tie bars are, but if they're the bushes that split on mine then they're graphite grease filled and tend to drip slightly when warm. Anyway, Nissan have this nasty trick of not supplying the bushes separately so you have to buy the whole rod - bloody stupid. However, some places sell replacement, better quality bushes, such as Stillen. These are available from Courtesy parts and the Z Centre, I think.

Hi ya had to change the tie bars on my previous zed as they were dripping like in previous post and had excessive movement I think they were about £100 each or so but are real easy to fit, this is prob easier than finding bushes then changing them as you have to remove the tie bars anyway and i assume a good press would be required to remove and reinstall the bushes.

good luck on the re-mot

I have done that fuel leak (twice). I removed the throttle linkage(one of the allen bolts is difficult to get to so I ground a little bit off the cambelt backing plate with a dremmel multi, you might get it with those ball end allen keys). I then had to remove one of the throttle bodys to get the linkage out(Ideal time to remove both throttle bodys and clean them out) the gaskets will probably rip when you remove the throttle bodys so buy some gasket paper and make 2 new ones if you dont want to order them from Nissan. Then you can get to the fuel pipe.

I have had problems with fuel pipe going mushy on the car after a few weeks. I have tried different types but after a while it seems to go soft and the clip seems to cut into the pipe, the only thing I can think of is that its the additives in super unleaded that does it, anyone else have any ideas?

I've got a bit of fuel pipe so I'll have a go at replacing that tomorrow.

Looks like fun...

Let me know if you need any of those parts second hand. Just a reminder to anyone else who need parts, I've still got just under half a cars worth of parts to sell.

Cheers

You can buy just the bushes for the bars and they are cheap, try here...

Thanks chaps.

I replaced the fuel pipe and it took me all day saturday because of a stuck bolt under the throttle pulleys and very little access to use hefty tools on it. Sorted anyway.

I'll decide what to do on the suspension bits shortly.

Just moving house and completely broke so not a good time for another big Z bill.

Thanks again.

AndyZ,

How much would you want for the tie bars and are the bushes likely to be OK?

What sort of mileage had they done?
