Paint on rear bumper

I need to repaint my rear bumper but am unshore on how to remove the old paint. Should I rub it off or can I use a stripper on it?

Anyone done any work on the rubber panels who can help?

Featured Replies

my mate who paints cars usually just treats poly bumpers as tho it were a normal panel, just take out the imperfections ie flakey paint stone chips etc with a sander or block and paper if no sander, using progresively finer grade, use a scotch pad (like a pot washer thing) to rough up the paint u havent sanded and then prime n paint.

You need to use plasticser in with the primer and top coat, this will reduce the risk of the paint cracking with the flexing of the bumper.

and dont use any stripper it will probababy melt the bumper i am a car painter so if u need any adivce im happy 2 help:)

Sorry to mug the post, but in the same vein:

Giggle,

You say you are a painter, do you know what the best mastic is for holding on rear spoilers?

Use either Sikaflex( think thats how you spell it) or Tigerbond.

These should be available from any bodyshop suppliers.

Both do pretty much the same job, just different brand names.
