Yes, I've got one. I noticed a difference - the car seemed a bit quicker and a bit louder/more throaty at the top end too.

You're right Dave- it sounds a lot 'throatier' at 3500+ rpm

Spool-up is quicker too :D

Just found this post from Nico:confused: Not sure now:confused:

Bottom Line.

Is the Lightened UN Pulley worth while HP whys ?

Yes - very good hp per pound!

Will the Pulley damage my engine ?

Yes with time it can and probably will damage something - how long will it take on the Z bottom end ? at least 3 -4 as the american guys have been running them for at least that long - And had no problems at all. No one can say for sure as a close examination of resulting Crank wear has never been undertaken on the VG30DETT engine to my knowledge.

Then why should i get one ?

All aftermarket mods will damage your car in some way - that is why Nissan didn't include them in the package most of the time. Race cars have used the same technology for years but then again there engines are rebuilt often. If you want power gains you have to live with the risk - as simple as that !

Im Confused ... Should i but one ?

If you want a more driveable - more powerfull car and are willing to live with the fact that in the time you own the car you may well need to rebuild the engine - then YES get one. If you want a car that will be reliable day to day and run as cheaply as possible but would still like more performance then NO.

The final factor to consider is the state of your car. If you have a intergallactic miler from japan with a bottom end that has more knockers than a Red top press inside front then i would not mod the car at ALL. increasing the horsepower of a imperfect car is dangerous to the life of the car and the owner.

This is a fine answer altho this is basically what i would tell anyone that is thinking of going above stage 2 (intake and exhuast)

Hope that helps ya'll

And there you have it!

Mine's been on the car since around mid-1999 according to my records!

Cool;)

I need this engine to last at least 12 months until my other engine gets rebuilt,I know the engine I am running now is very good, never uses oil/sounds sweet/etc but I would hate to blow the bastard up as I don't want it off the road for months:rolleyes:

Come join the off-road club mate, it's great fun! ;)

My UD pulley is going on along with a lightened flywheel so we'll soon see if the shit hits the fan again ;)

LOL fook that mate:D;) you mean when the pully hits the fan;)

From the figures I've seen I'm hoping for an extra 40bhp ish from these.

That's on a stock Z but with more boost the gains can be higher?

With my change from auto engine to manual there should be another 20 so when I'm finally back on the road I could be 60bhp up on last time! Maybe...

Is this realistic?

Not that I'll notice as I haven't really driven the thing since the GPS open day last year :(

Chris, don't expect gains by converting auto/manual we all know that the auto box saps a little more power, but AndyP did this conversion and the car has less power with the manual box, fook knows why?

I'm hoping that won't happen though cos I'm changing from an auto engine and box to a manual engine and box so that shouldn't happen...?

Andy still has an auto engine doesn't he?

Not that it should make any difference.

LOL But my Z will stay together far longer than yours, already proved that:D;)

Beware add-on devices with dubious power claims.

Ask yourself why do they make em in different pretty anodised colours? answer because a marketing person is selling them not an engineer!

the 2 or so extra bhp only come at high revs - just when harmonic vibrations might be wanting to tear your crankshaft to bits. Nissan didnt put the weights on the stock pulley for nothing.

It damps harmonic vibrations at certain frequencies and makes the motor smoother.

Yeah I'm getting worried now but mine is not anodised so it must be a proper one! ;)

But there are a lot of people using them with no problems so it can't be THAT bad

WillieO, Latz who is doing my car right now said the very same thing:rolleyes: You been on the blower to him lol;)

Mac's already replaced about 90% of what Nissan intended for this car so one more thing aint gonna hurt :D:D

You've got one haven't you Paul?

what do you think and how long has it been on the car?

got one but its not on yet as I havent got round to doing the cambelt yet

Oh no, don't say that!

Macca will be on to you now!

Don't fit it Paul or you'll get battered :D

No MAC 1 - havent talked to Latz its just I'm a bit of a cynic with power claims and add on bits. I think a lot is left to psychology and people justifying to themselves "I spent the money now I know it feels faster" without any objective proof.

Some mods are no better than aromatherapy for cars - hope I dont offend any zed owning aromatherapists out there but there's more than a few things in life I class in the bollockology class.

Then again I talk to my cars so where does that leave me!

Mine did make a difference. Whether you believe it or not is up to you! :p

Have a look at this though http://www.ttzd.com/rides/dynocharts/dynochart33.jpg
