Well folks,
Just wanted to share today's little scare with you and hopefully pass on some information that may help some of you in the future.
Now we all know what happens when our battery goes flat. Theres a lot of dim lights and relays fluttering thier arse off. However, what happens when you get that battery going again? Well, I can tell you!
Every time you hit the brakes, the HICAS light comes on for a second, but here's the best bit, all the electrics die for a split second too, and then come back. Now, when you are 23 miles from home, and after finishing 10 hrs work, the last thing you want is to be hanging around for 45 minutes for a RAC van, only to be told that you have to wait another 45 mintues for a low loader.
Anyway, I called the RAC anyway, but also called a mate who happened to live round the corner, to come and help me juice her back up. Popped the hood, and the positive terminal looked like a cocaine factory. Had trouble getting clean contact but in the end managed to do it. Cancelled the RAC.
So, 2 hours later and 23 miles further on, I'm in my driveway fitting the battery I bought over a month ago cus I knew mine was a bit suspect, when I find that the contacts are the other way round. The battery that was originally in was not the right one, so I thought I'd buy a beefier one anyway. Fiddled with the wiring a bit, nearly blow myself up twice but got the bugger on.
Now she behaves as she should and she has a nice meaty 680amp block of power with 135 mins in reserves. Now I've just got to get a decent alternator!
