I noticed a gurgling sound from f/near side - can be heard from inside car. I did a search and found same question from keith with a reply directing to TwinTurbo Net - AIV cleaning/rebuild.

Does this really hlp - seems alot of work.

Will any harm happen if left as it is?

Geoff.

ME TOO!!

same here, but only get it under load at low revs....

Take a look at this, all i did is pull the hose of and drain it and then drilled a hole where the red arrow is so that i dont have to again.

What is it for??

This is what i found.

The gurgling was Oil and the filter in the box above it was full of it!!

Thanks for your responses.

Geoff.

It is just something created for US emmisions, rip it out!!!!!!

The series II's didn't have it do another search, on TTnet FAQ's

from what I remember its just a glorified air pump to clean the cats on overrun so when it gets some water in it it starts to gurgle hence the reason to drill small drain hole.

Richard

Mark is right, useless bloody things. I drilled the hole which stopped mine gurgling for about a day or two.

Gonna take mine out...soon as the noise drives me up the Pope John Paul.

So if Richard is right that it's for the cats - if my cats are coming out shortly when I redo the exhaust, then they have no function?

So what parts need to be removed?

Geoff.

I thought when they are clogged it starts to run ~10% rich or so.

What makes it do that, ie would removing them put it back to normal or make a constant 10% rich setting?

Mine are still fitted, they have never ever made a noise in over 3 years, but they won't be on for much longer.

ECU over compensates by around 10 percent on the fuel consumption if the AIV's are blocked/gurgling/annoying the driver. :D

I have this gurgling, but no cats as 91 import?

drilling drain hole seems simplist solution?

...took mine out 2 years ago. no difference at MOT time re Co2 etc etc read outs. Car goes faster cos it weighs less. It needs to, it's an NA.
