Guest Wonk
I recently bent my Z in a low speed (5-10 mph) collision. My insurers wish to write the car off (Category D writeoff), as they believe that it is uneconomical to repair. I would like to investigate purchasing the salvage and having the car repaired myself, which my insurers are happy to entertain. Unfortunately, I have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever - I just drive 'em. I wonder if somneone would be prepared to give me a ballpark estimate (nearest £1000), broken down as much as possible, to effect these repairs, so that I may make an informed decision. The car is a 1990 Jap spec automatic, with no significant mods. The assessors report is as follows: Replace : Front Bumper Nearside Headlamp Nearside Indicator Nearside Driving Lamp Bumper Carrier Nearside Front Wing Front Panel Washer Bottle Lower Spoiler Nearside Rear Wing Rear Bumper Rear Mudflap Fuel Filler Neck Repair : Nearside Inner Wing Bonnet Nearside Door Nearside Rear Wheel Arch Immediately, following the accident, my car p*ssed its coolant all over the road, so I guess that I have also broken a radiator hose. Should, it prove to be economically viable to salvage the car, I would be looking for someone to do all the work, including acquisition and fitting of parts, as I am extremely lazy and incompetant. In the interim, I am driving a Volkwagen Golf, so please take pity on me. Thanks in anticipation.
51x
What's going on with the front /and/ back? You stuffed the guy in front, some guy stuffed you from behind? (all sounds a bit Graham Norton). I dunno about the bodywork, but you could probably get all the "bits" (washer bottles, headlamps(maybe), nose) from people breaking 300's on this forum. Guest Wonk
How come front and back? I turned right out of a side road, from a standing start. As I straightened up, the back end spun through nearly 180 degrees, taking me back across the road into the path of an oncoming car. The oncoming car had braked to a near halt when he hit my offside front wing. My spin continued, and I shunted his back end into the kerb. We ended up side by side, as if I was double parked. My car was longer than his, and so I hit his back end where my petrol filler cap is (hence the minor damage there). I therefore have no explanation as to how the rear bumper could be damaged, and can recall no damage there myself. Most likely, the insurance assessor has made it up. Although I have another theory involving a conspiracy between evil pixies and mutant squirrels, but this seems less likely.

emero
Just spoken to PPS They off the top estimate is 3-4 K, he suggested that we take some piccies on a digital camera as he's rather see the damage, then he would be able to make a better decision. Or if uneconomical buy it back and break it for spares..... not another one, rolleyes: (I seem to have knack of lying upside down in zeds, taking bits off)::p :p :D Then John you would have enuf dosh for another one:rolleyes: :D Spoke to Mike Feeney who can do u a proforma estimate and has most of the parts, new & SH ..i've got a list, which are cheaper than Nissan UK, though what isn't  need to be specific as Mike said some of the parts you may only need part of the parts not the whole assembly, so it would be much cheaper HTH

Guest AndyZ
I can supply you with most of the parts you need for about £500 total. A bit cheaper than Nissan :-) Thanks AndyZ (01634 221783 or 0776 176 3474 or geewhizz@onetel.net.uk)
