Guest HemZ
Hi All, I've had my car waiting for a box swap at a mate's garage for three months now - he's decided he doesn't want to do the job now (****er!!). Problem is I have to get it to Luke in Nottingham (about 80 miles) and I don't wanna drive it (won't change past second gear (Auto), no MOT, no tax etc). Any suggestions how I can get the AA to shift it for me? AFAIK they won't move it if it's capable of moving on its own no matter how dumb it would be to drive it. I have Relay membership but need a way to disable the autobox completely once I've moved it to someone else's driveway. It can't be anything too obvious (they might be able to fix it by some miracle) and really needs to be gearbox related as I'll need to explain why there's clutch, flywheel, gearbox etc etc in the boot/passenger seat. I thought about maybe disconnecting the autobox controller unit but I s'pose that will just stop it starting altogether. Any advice appreciated as ever.... Cheers! Guest JayPSC
When I was at Duffs I just rang them & said I'd been bleeding my brakes for 2hrs & still couldn't get them to work & that I thought it was the m/c. They just sent a truck out & they never bothered to check the car at all. If you make it clear that you've tried everything they are going to I doubt they'll even waste their time trying. Just remove the main ECU or or something & complain that the car won't start. They'll never check that it's missing & if they do just say it must've been stolen muwahahahaha
SRRAE
Yeah, the AA and RAC have 2 lots of people. People who go out and try to fix the car and people who just tow. If you ask for a tow the person who comes will just come to tow it. He doesnt want to look at your car and he doesnt have to. Stuart
b19rks
Just remove something important from under the bonnet like the PTU and say its been stolen, the AA wont carry one, make sure they put it on a tailer and not just tow it though
51x
The times I've needed assistance I've just rung and said: you won't fix this (and I don't want you to try)... send a low-loader, and make sure the guy's got some lumps of wood so I can get up the ramp. They don't fart around. The bird on the end of the phone don't care what the problem is either. Saying that, this is the old Green Flag, and Direct Line. Dunno about AA / RAC. olly300zx
I once got my 200sx towed by the AA. I blew the engine just as I was getting to cornwall as I was having a hols. (about 300 miles away from me). Parked it up where I was staying and left it till a week later when my holiday was up. Got the AA to tow it all the way home saving me about £800 in towing fees. The guy was so shocked that the engine was freezing cold even though I said it was running this morning lol ! I just blagged it and he didn't really care. They even had to swap over tow trucks in Britsol because thats as far as the first one would go ! Just take off the PTU, he won't even know what it is unless he has a Z and he won't get it started !
