Prop Vibration

Hi all.

I've just replaced my prop (usual knackered centre-bearing) for another known-good one. I've tried fitting it in all 4 positions (run-out remains the same) onto the rear yoke but it STILL vibrates like hell between 30 & 50 mph. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing it?

Many Thanks

Check your balancing on your wheels

Most places will check it for free and only charge if anything needs doing.

Its amazing how much it effects your car when a 5g weight falls off your wheel

did you get your gearbox mount checked when you did the prop? these tend to sag with time..

Shaunmac........

I had the EXACT same symptoms as prop shaft bearing but it turned out to be the rear steering arm bush.

A pretty quick way of checking is to jack up the car, leave the wheel on and see if you can wobble it from side to side, kinda left to right, not up and down, if you know what I mean.

Yeah I've had a similar experience - I thought the Prop Centre Bearing was royally buggered on my car, but after replacing a poly bush on the front the vibration was very significantly reduced. I still have the vibration but it's much less of an issue - at least for now.

Good luck tracking it down!

Russ.

Just to jump in again.....I also needed the front poly bushes and before I did have them done, it was a kind of vibration but was alot more noticeable under braking. This might help to differentiate the two.

rear gearbox mount - cured the vibrations - about £54 from MJP. half hour to replace.

good luck
