Thinking of selling my CBR 600 and wondered how people go abouts selling a bike privately. What is stopping someone from taking the bike out for a test drive and not coming back. I really don't fancy riding pillion with someone I don't know.

Cheers

get them to leave their car keys? Assuming they come in a car.

You're right, Vijay, you do have to be very careful - there are so many scams for this. Even two blokes come round in a car (or on a bike). Bloke 1 takes your bike for a test leaving Bloke 2 and transport as hostage.

After Bloke 1 has been gone for 5 mins, Bloke 2 simply gets into car and effs off.

Basic rule - if you don't have a good feeling about them, don't let them ride whatever the deposit / hostage.

Ask them to bring their passport and driving licence. Make up a form that they have to sign which confirms they have insurance and they are responsible for any damage during their test ride - and show you ther insurance certificate.

Check their pic in the passport and name against insurance / driving licence. Then keep hold of passport / insurance cert / driving licence until they come back.

Not unreasonable - if they think this is too much then don't let them touch your bike.

Just some suggestions.

Good luck - Gio

Do not let them ride it vijay, not even if they leave car keys, it happened to my friend and the car they left was stolen!!!, only way to do it is ask for the cash to hold while they ride it, this way A. you know theyre serious

B if they go you got the money

C If they drop it you use whats in your hand to pay for repair, if they are genuine they will not object to this at all and will understand, if they have a problem with it simply thank them politely, decline a test ride and bid them good day HTH;)

And don't meet at your home address-if thats where the bike is kept.....I've heard of someone to come back and nick it after sussing where it was, garage, sideway etc.

As Gavo says, only let them ride it if you have their cash in your hands.......if they are genuine it won't bother them. Have someone with you if its poss aswell. Basicly, I know its shit, but you can't be too careful.

Vijay,

All the bike mags recommend that you ask them for the asking price in full before allowing them to ride your bike, if they dont have the cash/ bankers draft with them, they are not there to buy.

Couldnt agree with james more, take a biggish mate and meet them at the local petrol garage.

Do NOT take anything but cash/bankers draft as a deposit ( and apparently some bankers drafts are dodgy)

Like has been said before if they are genuine, the wont mind. Especially if you spell it out when they phone to enquire.

thanks guys, the advice is really appreciated:) I think it'll have to be cash as I've heard the same thing about bankers drafts.

Vijay

Na, I have a far better idea...

Rip the motor out, scrap the rest and build one of these:

0-60 3.5 sec

370bhp per tonne

2.5 lateral G

I used to run the championship for these back in 2000. They were called Formula Honda then and they are quick!

The car is actually based on a Jedi Hill Climb car and is made in an ancient shoe factory in Wellingborough.
