Help!!

I have just upgraded from my Ford Probe to a real sports car, a manual 1990 300zx import. However I have a problem. I got the car home no problem, but cannot now get it started!

 

When I turn the key I get no response, not a whisper. The electrics all work okay, I recharged the battery, I even tried a new battery.

 

The only thing I have noticed is when I turn the key the engine light comes on with CHECK across it. What does this mean? How can I get the car started again?

 

Any help is gratefully accepted.

    I dont know what the switch is for - I took the panel off and it is not connected to anything, although the panel is moulded to fit the switch, so it looks like it may have been there for something at some time.

     

    I've given up trying to sort the car out myself - i'm going to call out the RAC and see if they can fix it.

    No - the guy started it in front of me. However...

     

    SUCCESS !!!

     

    The problem was the immoboliser. The wires in the engine bay were underneath the engine and were not connected properly. What must have happened is that on the way home with the car the wires must have come disconnected which is why I couldn't start the car again!

     

    I have now taken the car out for a good run - it is fabulous, what a great buy.

    I once had a 300 with a switch under the dash to cut the windo wipers. For why..?!! I still wouldn't mind knowing what your big red switch does.
