Today I had my first confrontation with the police in my Z. Sitting in traffic when I see a police car came down the other side of the road stopped next to me and asked me to roll down my window.

I did and he said

"Your number plate is illegal"

This is the number plate that I got with the car. Standard font, not italic, hidden or discoloured or broken.

"Why?" I said

"Your 7 should be after your H"

My number plate is H7*** and it says H 7*** on the plate. So the 7 is after the H.

"Ok" I said in the most bored and doppy voice ever and drove off.

Petty little man. I have had dozens of police cars following me for miles at a time, either going in the same direction and I know a few times they radioed the number plate in to see if it is stolen. Which I am fine with. None of them have pulled me over, yet this sad man pulled into oncoming traffic around 4 cars to tell me this. GET A LIFE.

F**k, I'm surprised I haven't been pulled yet!!! My Merc plates(which came with the car) are full on dodgey font and more Italic than someones signature who can only write in Italics.

 

I was behind a Pig MPV last night all the way from Hitchin back to Stevenage. Maybe I should visit Harry's this weekend and get some new plates. Don't need no heat on me, know what I mean? You ain't seen me, right?

 

Anyway, what do you expect, more A.I. Pigs(cameras) that are going up frees up more carbon based lifeform Pigs to stop people like us for having our right arm hanging out of the window with a lit cigerette! What next???

Hi,

I have heard that they are having a purge on 'illegal' number plates in the near future!(That will really make the streets safer, and help us sleep safely in our beds at night!!)

The clampdown on no. plates will mean that you will only be able to buy standard issue ones in future, without any 'legends' at the bottom...plus the no. plate will contain a reference no. which will tell the police where/when it was made, so they can prosecute the Guy who made it as well, if it doesn't adhere to the law!

What's next - will our aerials be too long? Or our grins too wide when driving a Zed? Perhaps we will be in possession of an offensive colour code (I've at least got an excuse there - they're my initials too - AJ (4)). Or will we be driving in a built up area with more than the legal limit of dead flies and bugs on the fronts of our cars?

So where the hell were the f***ing plonkers when I was trying to cross the road at a pelican crossing today??? A bastard Nova came flying straight out of a side road and nearly squashed me!!!

I swear if I had been crossing with my woman and sproglets and he came across the road like that, I would have made it my business to hunt him down and crucify the twat

I digress anyway - the whole point of the index plate on our cars is to make them recognisable... so Timmy is cruising in his KronkenWagen and some old bag wants to report him to the bizzies for eating sausages and not being in control of his vehicle, surely the plonk could find him easier if he has number plates that stand out...

Well you know the real reason they're having a crackdown on illegal plates?

 

Their fancy new cameras (the ones that calculate average speed over distance and use no film) can't read illegal plates.... And so become totally.... useless!

 

Oh BTW - Hello! Just browsing around and found 300zx.co.uk... Thought I'd say Hi to you all.. With a bit of luck (and money) I should be able to get shot of my current car and get a nice Zed in the near future.. Cross yer fingers for me

In case you're wondering what I drive round in right now (I know you're not, but I'm gonna tell you anyway!).. I've got a '94 Renault 19 16v as the daily car (chip, filter, exhaust, alloys, brakes done) and a '89 Renault 5 GT Turbo as the toy...

Prior to my Z I had a '92 Renault 19 16v, pretty damn swift and excellent handling on fat sticky Michelins.

Andyduff - no progress on the ol camera idea yet. Still waiting for the price and spec from whoever said they's seen something suitable.

I'm still very much in favour of such a site.... so let's hope the info comes back soon. Otherwise...andone else know of a small, (for as little cost as possible) camera that'd do the job well enough?

Be wary with the new cameras, all plates that can't be read with OCR(optical character recognition for all not in the know!) will be flagged and read by a person instead. So unless you've disguised your plate with Cantonese characters, it should be tightening a noose around your neck anyway! ARSE!

 

Anyone want to start up a site for sniper wannabes that go on secret missions in the middle of the night, camera blasting???

There was an article in the paper over the weekend about a group that has already been formed for the sole purpose of trashing speed cameras. Was in the Scaley Whale though, so needs to be taken with a pinch of sodium chloride.

Hey And, Techtom is nice! Smaller than I thought it would be. I thought it would be more radar detector sort of dimensions but it's basically just a screen with a couple of buttons. Looks smart though! Just need a car now. Also my ASP underdrive pulley+belts is here, V. nice also!
