well for the F1 cars they are hand made and come in at about £20k

Im guessing 12k or thereabouts.

Top Gear said it was £50k

With that price, it's more like fitting your Zed on the exhaust ;) :D

Is that gold plated too like the engine bay?

How can it possibly cost £50K?

You could have 2 skilled toolmakers employed for a year for less!

Tim

Correct - according to Top Gear they cost £50,000

Guess you are paying for the R&D costs of an exhaust which is only going to sell in the 10's or 100's, hence the great price. What a car tho !

They said they don't have power steering - r they heavy to steer then ??

We'll probably never know :(

Probably.

But equal length manifolds are very expensive, then make that for a V12 with very little room too, then make with the best material, none of this cheap stainless steel. Now make it for a £600,000 car.

Dont forget they lose money for every one they make.

Its just so they can say the make the worlds fastest car.

Stuart

Murray Walker reckons it's the ultimate road car because it is probably the only car ever made where money has no negative influence over its design. Whatever makes the car better is used regardless of price or time to develop etc.

Also the car has a central driving position and no driver aids. It was built to be as light as possible (within tight limits - ie. it has a sound system but this was only allowed to be so heavy)

Used to, I think Bugatti now hold that crown.

Wonder if an F1 can be modified to produce more power ??

I guess so, twin turbo it, or if you are adequatly insane quad turbo it ;)

It IS n/a isnt it?

If I had one.... I'd paint it Lime green... fit it with twin turbo's, NOZ and those really cool seatbelt covers that you get free with Redline magazine this month!!

Then i'd tint the windows, stick on neon washer jets, fit as many 10x12's as possible and go and park it outside Icon on a friday night looking for a race...

LMAO

how come a hand crafted exhaust for williams F1 only costs 20k?

seems like someone is using nissan price increases there.

The exhaust on the F1 serves as part of the crash structure. The main box is designed to collapse in a rear impact and absorb the energy. Guess that accounts for £2k of the price then ...

Yes sorry the fastest production car.

As for this Bugatti, have any of them been made? I know there is that TVR Speed12 is it? Which is meant to be super fast but none have been produced for sale.

The McLaren F1 can do and has done 260mph stock. I have seen a video of it on the internet.

Clarkey I think they are turboed anyway. I watched a vid mith Hakanen driving it and he said he loved the sound of the turbos.

As for the exhaust price. Look at how much room the McLaren one took. Its all equal length manifold which just looks like a knot of metal. The F1 car has is more straight forward, as the manifold just comes out of the engine and goes straight back and they have a little more room to work with.

Nelson, apparently F1 cars are restricted quite a lot. I hear that putting a different intake system in will add another 50bhp.

The old F1 1.5 turbo engines could produce over 1000bhp, but with the restrictions of noise, exhaust, intake and other things which I wont understand, they ran about 650-800bhp on the track.

The F1 is not turbo'd just a very good engine! Read a book about it's design and build, and Ramsey was v. keen to keep it aspirated to get rid of the kak throttle respose that turbo engines are always going to have.

i can get a Timex replacement from my local motor factors for £39.99 (trade) if anyone is interested :D :D :D

Blimey! thats a big mess, and Ive inherited some spellos ;)

its not easy to type when you are not looking at the screen or keyboard but are infact trying to watch 2 football matches at once.

2 boring matches at that too.

Stuart

They did say that the exhausts cost £50,000 AT THE TIME OF PRODUCTION, they look like titanium ones, but whatever they are im sure theyre alot cheaper these days! (not that i'd ever afford one!!);)
