OK I know your gonna scream mental some of you but...

20, drive a 306, 3 years NCB, at the moment with my insurer that's worth 70%. I'm looking for someone to insure me on a 300zx TT, I'd love a swb but I don't think that'll happen.

Anyone have any good experiences please? I will fit traction control :D

Cheers

Russ

Tesco may help as may Direct Line.

SWB Z's are imports and all imports are about 20% higher to insure to the extent that its cheaper to insure a UK TT than a Jap Non Turbo.

Your age may cause problems as when I researched I couldnt find any one who would insure me with that car under the age of 21. I had to wait untill I was 21 to get it.

How much you looking to spend on a Z?

From a Pug 306 to a Z is a huge jump in power. Dont be a fool with it at when/if you get oneW we dont want you splattered over the road.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

20% you say, import is out the window then. My dad is egging me to get the swb but I don't know. Still undecided on manual/auto, driven autos and it's so relaxing specially in Bournemouth traffic but I'm worried when I get it out on the open road I'll be thinking "Wish I'd bought a manual".

I see what your saying about the danger eliment. I've got my motorbike licence so my awareness is quite good and I'm gonna fit traction control because I have little rwd experience (apart from an old Senator). I've gotten over the going fast and scaring myself bit, I have a motorbike for that and eventually my V8 240z, the extra performance is mainly to help with shifting the amount of junk I take to and from uni and to cut down on danger time when overtaking. I'm fed up of having to take run ups :D

I think I'll get around £3k for my pug so maybe £5k or a bit more if its worth it.

I got an online quote for £1100 with Liverpool Victoria so irl thats prolly £1500 which I can live with (fully comp), that's if they don't want me to wait till I'm 21 (ANOTHER YEAR ARGH!). If I can get a quote thats sensible my current broker will probably try to beat it so...

I'm still not sure I might be better off paying through the nose and getting a swb :)

I'll go try Direct Line, Tescos and Privilege cheers :)

I personally prefer the look of the 2+2. To me the SWB looks too tubby. However they are lighter and so a little quicker off the mark. The the rear seats may be pathetic but they are big enough to squeeze people in.

On the other hand the 2+2 handles better at high speeds, according to people in the US who only have the TT in SWB, and they kill for the 2+2 Turbo.

As for the traction control quite a few people on here have it and there has just been a group buy of the system which saves you a few hundred pounds. I have it and in the rain, its just nice to be able to pull out of junctins with out worrying the tail will swing out.

Here are a few phone number of insurance companies which are Z friendly, but not all do imports. If you get a UK Z which is over 10 years old you may be able to get Classic insurnace, but you need to own another car and most want you to be 24 or 25.

Good luck with insurance hunting and with buyuing a Z too.

Stuart

Russ Liverpool victory wont insure you if you are under 30 im afraid. Dont go by the web site, it is a bit misleading.

Ray

I got my zed at 20, you won't get insured on a SWB as they are imports, not for less than 4grand or so.

I went with http://www.firebond.com and paid 1800 for a uk manual.

also traction control will be seen as a performance mod rather than a safety mod and will incresae your premium.

tesco quoted me 3grand this year, firebond quoted 1200.

Mike (in a rush)

I got a quote from tesco on a TT import it was 750 fire and theft i couldnt believe it!! im 23 with 2 bans and 6years no claims. i was paying over 1500 for my cosworth last year.

Make sure that was a Z32.

Cos I was quoted £1200 TPFT for a UK Z from tesco with 5 years No Claims.

There has been problems with insurance companies imputting the wrong car.

Stuart

How long where you banned for each time then?

Also you dont input a 300ZX import in as 300ZX on most Insurance sites. You put it in as a Fairlady.

Stuart

Heya russ,

YOURE MENTAL! lol only jokin, but you could go for n/a zed to start with, not as much rear end wiggle!

I drive thru Bridgee sometimes, have you seen a yello z with bodykit about? :)

Russ,

If your old man is pushing for a short wheelbase, why dont you get it insured in his name, you as named driver?

Hey Russ,

Got three years NCB and one accident to my name (I`m 26) and after much ringing round I got my best quote from Houghton Insurance for my import TT (one more week till the boat docks in Southampton...:D )£1045, which is still a lot but a damn sight better than my next best from Osbourne and Son at £1745!

The only proviso was that I joined the owners club. No hardship there!:)

i've just rang every single company i can think of, and most need you to be over 25 for an import (not uk mind), that includes a+a, a-plan, norwich union etc (basically every company mentioned on this forum, along with most out of max power)

car: import, TT, 2+2, Manual, 1993

best quote was tesco at £2321, with cat 1 AND tracker fitted with £500 excess.

was quite disheartened about this, but thought ok fair enuf. however, just rang adrian flux who found me £1846 fully comp, but limited to 3000 miles a year (thats ok, its just for weekends). i made sure they knew it was an import, and they only require a cat 2 immobiliser (ie not the tracker, which costs a fair wedge!)

hope that helps!

Ben

Sorry, forgot to add excess was £750 tho. oh, and you geta replacement car whilst your is being fixed :)

just one thing to bear in mind an import my be 20% (which i think my be a bit hi) but an older uk car my have quite a bit of rust hidden away witch my come out and bite you at some stage if you get a genuine import it will have no rust and you will be hard pushed to find a uk car with such a low mileage as you can get on an import. You my save your 20% a year on not having to shell out on repair bills. :D

Watch out what you say about the rust.

You are not garunteed an Import to be 100% rust free.

THey dont have as much underseal on as UK cars, and an import which has spent a few years here sould be rusting because of lack of protection.

Also a large number of Jap imports come over with some sort of modification and you dont know if it is good or not.

There have been horror stories of people getting an import and then having the engine blow weeks later because the car was modified.

Stuart

Im 42 (old git! NOT!) found Tescos Cheapest for 89 tt import. Just put my young (28) current grlfriend on still only £678 fully comp. however.......... havnt mentioned mods : BBS alloys full body kit some odd exhausts! could be in the shit! and in reply I have no idea what other mods were done in japan but have no probs as yet!

Thanks for the help guys :)

I've listed em all now and will do lots of ringing around tomorrow, then will let you know how I got on (wish me luck!).

I'm gonna try to get rid of the 306 asap then as theres a lovely 300zx up and they are coming down in price. £4000 with 50k on the clock etc.

Probably will go for a UK 2+2 manual as it seems the best option. I can always remove the rear seats :P

Cheers and lets hope tomorrow goes well, after which it might be off to the bank for a loan to get things rolling quicker :P

I was 22 when I got mine - a 2+2 import. 3points SP30, 1 yr no claim, safe parking.

I found about 50% of companies I rang decline me due to age or the fact it was imported

Adrian Flux (I was with them anyway!) gave me the best quote in the end (£2.5k), but wouldn't let me change it to a second car or limited mileage policy part way through the year. They are pretty good with mods though.

I suppose you never know who is the "cheapest" insurer 'til you try to claim from them...

Pete
