They come as an option on the 2000 spec Z32.

They are very expensive to have installed on a Z now.

Has anybody got the part numbers to retrofit HID onto an older car?

Paul

I was looking on ebay in the States and there are loads of auctions for HID bulbs. Are these any good ?

Mark

I looked into this a while ago before eventually just getting 80W bulbs which seemed to help a lot.

I didn't really consider the proper Nissan kit as it was just too expensive.

There were various aftermarket kits available, which lots of the US guys seem to have and they say they're great. Obviously some kits are better than others and it depends on the temperature rating which affects the colour of light emitted, as far as I remember.

What put me off was when I found out that all HID lights in UK cars have to be self-levelling. As these kits aren't, they can have a tendency to blind oncoming traffic and hence are illegal to use in the UK.

I presume it would be OK to retrofit the Nissan kit, but I *think* that was well over £1k when I looked.

Ouch!!!

I have 100watt bulbs in anyway but they are still crap at dusk.

Just have to drive slower, doh!!!!.

Just don't go out at night!!!

It's far safer!:D :D ;)

They are really complex though. They have to by law be automatic self cleaning, automatic self adjusting (beam direction) and automatic brightness ajdusting, or something like that.

Cant remember where I saw it.

Stuart

Does anybody know if it is actually bu law or just to confirm to type approval? I presume that newer vehicles have to comply to stricter standards anyway.
