Problem with Central Locking using a Clifford 300

Hi, I have a problem with remote central locking on my car, it only locks intermittently, it does however un-lock consistently.

Any thoughts as to what may be causing this

Is the central locking triggered though a remote replay which is maybe on the way out?

Thanks.

Does it central lock when you use the key on the drivers door?

I think the Z needs a solinoid installed for the passenger door.

It may be on the way out or faulty.

It is probably the solenoid that the alarm fitter used on the drives door. Generally they have too longer travel for the application and have a fairly short life. You can do what I did and thats fit a door motot off another nissan for the drivers lock, replacing the microswitch on the lock with the new motor / switch. i think mine came from a primera but cant be sure.

Good luck

Both doors don't lock when I manually lock the drivers door, I have to do them individually. When I lock the doors using the remote, it often doesn't even try. If the drivers door solenoid was knackered I would still expect the passenger door to lock, hence I think it's a relay or something.

I'm just not sure how the Clifford locks the doors.

From what you say it only confirms to me that either the motor which was installed with your alarm is knackered, the wiring to it (non factory from alarm) or the alarm output is crap. I have replaced loads and loads of motors installed when alarms have been fitted, even a few that I had installed a few years back. They are very unreliable like I say due to the long travel they have and locks usually only needing a short throw to lock or unlock them. This means that every time you lock or unlock the door the motor is reaching the throw of the lock and still being driven by the alarm, thus burning the motors out over time.

The 300 has a motor in the pasenger door but only a switch in the drivers door, when you have an alarm fitted they fit an aftermarket door motor to the drivers door which activates the lock and the original switch. ie The drivers door is locked and unlocked with the alarm motor while the passenger door uses the original factory system. The reason it works with the key is because you are manually activating the lock andswitch in the door, which thenactivates the factory system locking the passenger door.

Good luck.

Could it just be the fuse for the central locking blown?

Stuart

To add to what Paul said, I had my driver's side unlock fail twice and when I got a different bloke to have a look at it, his story was that there are two ways to fix the motor to the door lock/unlock mechanism.

a) just clamp the motor's arm to the door lock cable

b) use a proper bracket to fix the arm to the cable.

If you do a) (he said) every time you lock/unlock the door, you are flexing the cable which eventually snaps where you clamped the arm to it.

Now he told me this after he had charged me for the fix and put the door panel back so I have no proof / pics. But it sounded logical.

Just before the whole thing failed entirely, I had "anomalous" behaviour - wouldn't unlock one side, wouldn't unlock one side but would the other etc so I wonder if yours is on the way out?

Just to add my two pennys worth, when they fitted the alarm they have to fit a solenoid to the drivers door cos it doesn't have one only the passenger side has it . the drivers side works directly of the lock mechanism on the stock nissan central locking system hence both doors won't lock or unlock from passenger side only drivers side(save money for nissan but other manufacturers do use them all round as well)

If the solenoid is goosed they are cheap to buy about £7 and easy to fit .

OK, fixed my central locking problem, you wanna know what it was? You'll never guess. It was a faulty bulb in the courtesy light! I guess the solenoid takes it's power from the same circuit!

Mike

It shouldn't do!!!

Paul

Weird I know, if I take the bulb out it stops working!
