Yesterday (after a trundle in the country) the radiator cap blew off the rad and all the coolant went whoosh all over the road.

This was after about an hour on the M4 at less than 90, followed by about 10 mins at 40.

RAC bloke who filled up the system said the cap couldn't have been on properly as they never come undone by themselves.

Has anyone else had a cap do this? (Real Nissan rad cap, real Nissan rad, no mods).

Cheers - Gio

Happened twice - last time totally fried the engine. Both times temp gauge was reading normal (sensor sitting in air rather than water?).

On mine the cause was a leaking heater matrix combined with a disconected overflow hose - but I suppose any leak would cause it.

I would seriously recomend having the cooling system checked before using the car again.
