Can anyone help , When i'm driving along my suddenly my speedo needle goes right round and off the clock and the chime from my "lights left on" sounds aswell and when i bang on top of the dash above the speedo it returns to the speed i'm actually doing ! ....Does anybody have any ideas wot it could be ?......:confused: :( :confused: :(

Id say its probably speed converter/ defender little box behind the speedo on alot of J specs, if its a UK spec probably the speedo itself as they dont have these i believe.

 

Dont think its the speed sensor on the gearbox as a tap on the dash wouldnt fix it if it was.

 

Good luck I spent two hours under mine on Sunday (and two phone calls to Macca) in the end a wire had come off and i had great fun reattaching it!!

Loose wire mate.

It's a piece of p|ss to take the clocks out, however a word of warning, don't take the needles off, my fuel gauge only reads 3/4 full now when it's totally full :D. I'll have to sort that out when I get the car back.
