Cheers,

Matt.

Don't touch them!!! Steer well clear!!! You REALLY don't want to fit these...

Have I put you off?

Good :D They are the worst quality brake castings I have EVER seen in my life!!!

So what you are saying, if I can read between the lines, is that you don't think the're much good.;)

So waht's a good similarly priced alternative? I don't think the wife can see the benefits of a total AP Racing upgrade.

yeah just ring 3g brakes and let them help you out, same4 price and far better. http://www.3gbrakes.co.uk

Yep, what Warren said ;)

Cheers for that- 160 quid for a pair is OK.

What about pads then, I've used greenstuffs on my Rover 820 and wasn't impressed, low dust though. And I've heard blackstuffs wear very quickly.

i have g force slotted discs on the front.

I've used mintex c-tech racing pads which were pretty good, but didn't last very long, and loads of brake dust.

But I think it's EBC greens I've got on just now, and they've been good.

Must disagree, EBC have really improved their gear of late and they have developed their products as a result of direct customer feed back.

Compound changes to their pad range also the finish and quality of their disc castings and coatings are now first class.

I fit Brembo disC`S almost every week and now fit as many EBC parts as Brembo. They are slightly cheaper but do have the turbo groove and spottie feature which does reduce pad dust on the wheels.

Have had no complaints about EBC discs as yet but 2 sets of Brembo disc`s had problems, and as an indicator I have fitted in the region of 12 full sets disc`s this year. and some 37 sets last year.

Just my view though, everyone has theirs but do compare like for like.

Sorry, but EBC will be getting a complaint about my last set of Red V.2s they were crap!

I'm on Ferodos OE until I can get something else sorted, been through 3 sets of EBCs - 1 x Green and 2 x Reds. That's about £300 of brake pads in 17,000 miles!

Tim

I have the 3G 20Slot disks and SS Brake lines, and I must say It's much improved over stock. The current set of pads I have are a bit dodgy though. The best pads I've found so far have been the stock one's! but then I've only used 3 sets of pads.

All I need now is a master cylinder brace, anyone know where to get one?

Hmm, so I am now thinking of 3g 20GR disks, Porterfield R4S Fast road pads on the front. I was thinking of something a bit more budget on the rear, perhaps standard disks and blackstuff pads.

However, as my mate at work points out, if the blackstuff on the rear heat up first, and grip the rear wheels while the fronts are still heating up, it may cause instability.

Hmm, it's never easy. Any comments/experience of this?

Matt.

Zedding on a budget tightly controlled by the wife.

Use stock pads on the rear - under braking the rear does bugger all ;) Stock rears are around £25 a set AFAIK :)

Alright Matt

I have this setup on my import Z, i have the turbo discs, and the new improved Red stuff pads.

They are supposed to heat up quicker and not run out as quick, Im now left wiv brake discs that are warp'd, and pads that are gone, after bout 6 months of not really much driving, and as for the first ten minutes of driving, I have to brake as tho my Z is a train, bout 6 miles before a junction. They are well dangerous when there cold, i was doing bout 25 MPH the other day went to stop at a junction and the car just carried on straight out into the middle of the road.

They work ok when they are hot, but think im gonna avoid them in future.

Anyone else recommend better companies, Tarox, Black Diamond, Etc Etc????

Hope this has help Matt

I stand by what I said about EBC stuff ;)

I've just been looking at reviews for the Porterfield, and quote:

R4S:

A carbon road-pad, offering the best street stopping ability of all without screeching or dusting, or taking time to warm up.

Of course this is from someone trying to sell me them, but as my Zed is a daily driver in and around Bracknell with lots of stop-start driving, I don't want something that takes time to warm up!

Oops sorry mister, my brakes don't work until 50 degrees C!

Although saying that, I've had a quick search and in this thread:

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13379&highlight=whifbitz

Someone says they DO need warming up!

Oh what to do what to do! May go for the Porterfields anyway, but it's an expensive mistake to make.

Sticking pistons.

These cars are getting on a bit and UK ones have had salty winters. The pistons rust and sieze. Mine also ruined and warped a set of new Nissan discs in less than 10k due to this. Remember you still have brakes with only 2 or 3 of each front calipers 4 pistons not sticking. Just not very good ones and ones that unevenly heat the discs.

my 2 p worth.

I stand by what I said about EBC stuff

Red stuff pads should be used on track only in my view despite what others may think, you simply cannot have the best of both, a compromise is always the result, EBC disc`s are not bad quality try looking at an unbranded motor factor set then you will see what poor quality is.

Jeff TT

Jeff I accept your point and understand where you're coming from. HOWEVER how much are a set of disks from a motor factors and how much are a set of EBC disks? No comparisson ;)
