My Fairlady Z has now been off the road for a year with a F****d auto box. First of all the original box packed up on me in the lake district, and I had to be lifted by the RAC back to Slough (what a journey), then I eventually fought the box out of the car having dismantled the exhaust, etc; with just a jack and a pair of alxe stands to give me clearance under the car!!!! Took the box to a guy in Didcot, who told me that the box was unrepairable. Bought a box from Nippon Spares, and fitted it. No reverse and no 1st gear. Took this box out and over to the guy in Didcot. He said he fixed it, but I had the same trouble, took it back, and he said there was nothing wrong with it. Got a friend who has a full size car hoist to install the box, still had the same problem. Tried it out on saturday and found that if the car is put in reverse it won't move; if it's put in neutral it creeps forward, in 2 it does the same, in 1 it doesn't move. Apparently, it's not a problem with the shifter being improperly adjusted.
I'm out for over £1200 so far, and I've got a car that is just making a good home for spiders. To be honest, I feel like torching the F*****g thing.
Anyone got some ideas of A) what the problem is, and B) a really good outfit that will sort this problem. Someone in the Slough area if possible.
Cheers,
Rob
