About 1 month ago i had an agent import me a 300zx. To cut a long story short im very happy with it but i keep finding aftermarket mods!!

Good ones!

I put a post on the forum asking about what boost levels i can run to on stock turbos and stock ECU because the car had a boost controller. The majority of people said i had to upgrade the ecu before running at higher levels than 12psi.

Well i had a look at the ECU today and! their is a sticker on it saying! ""KAKIMOTO RACING!!""

SO THE QUESTIONS ARE:

1. Is this a good ECU upgrade??

2. What boost levels can i run to now??

3. What kinda Bhp will i be putting to the wheels with this ECU, cat back veilside exhaust and boost controller??

Thankyou very much for your time

Tom

I have never heard of that ECU make but there are loads of Japanese companies which make stuff for the Z and we dont hear of. I am sure if a Z in Japan had a SE chip they would wonder who they are.

The ECU chip doesn't actually give you that much more power. What it does is allow you to rise your boost levels safely.

If the ECU is good and you have stock intercoolers people say 12-13 or even 14psi is OK. 15-16psi on stock intercoolers is asking for trouble. If your inter coolers are uprated ones, you can run 15-16 more safely.

As for power at the wheel depends on a lot of things. We can only guess and it will be a guess. You could take it to a rolling road and then find out its higher or lower than what you expect.

The general rule is, induction, echaust, decat, ECU and boost rised to 12-13, you will have about 380-390 even 400bhp at the crank.

But then you will lose a lot through the transmission. Auto boxes lose more than manuals, but having an uprated autobox and torque converter will increase efficiency so less power will be lost.

Manual boxes lose less power but can be made with more efficent with lightened flywheel, or even skimmed a few times and uprated clutches will help you gain back some power which is usually lost.

You may have these things on you car, but the only way to find out is to open things up and have a look.

Well known Jap tuning house. Chances are it is already running higher boost. Get yourself an aftermarket boost gauge and check the evel. Stock ones are crap!

Happy boosting:D

Hello Mate,

Well good news for you so far!

You probably already know this but run the car on Optimax, it is the highest octane fuel readily available, 98.6 I believe! The chip is probably designed to run on 103 octane Jap fuel!

Also have a look at your plugs, at lot of Jap cars have plugs not designed for our lower octane fuels, so check out the Spark Plug Debates that have been going on and make up your own mind. I have heard it is a controversial subject:D
