My 1990 UK Auto (standard spec. genuine 57K on the clock) had a recon. box fitted last year - since which I have covered a mighty 500 miles (its amazing the petrol savings that come from a 34 week lay-up in the garage!) - everything was great until last week.

The symptoms are similar to a slipping clutch - revs can rocket without the car going any faster?? it also appears to not change into top - it will rev to 7,500 - 8,000 and have the limiter cut in but it will only be doing 80 mph.

As I said - it was running superbly, so suggestions please. My guess is the torque converter, although I'm the first to admit that my knowledge of auto boxes is minimal.

The GOOD thing is that the box is still under warranty.......

Really there is no need to ask whats wrong. You should just really take the car back and say its not right and its upto them to sort it.

I gave little eperience with Auto Boxes but I think I agree with you with the torque converter.

check the ATF level 1st - otherwise it sounds like an internal box fault :(

mate ive been through hell and back with my 90'uk auto. I also had a recon!

The symptoms sound familiar but firstly i think you should do a 'Self auto diagnostic' and check for any faulty circuits.

The other thing to do is flush the box and top it up like paul said, get the guys who did the recon to do it, they should normally tel u to come bak after around a few1000m.....anyway

With mine, the C**TS left the rev & speed sensor dissconnected:mad: it took me 8mths of my own (and Vij's) time & research to rectify it. Now it drives 100%. Most places do the recon as usual, replace the torque convertor, etc etc, but some of these 'local, "oh we've been reconditioning boxes for donkeys yrs", cowboys' dont have a flamin clue about the 300!

I reckon if they have reconed the internals how they should have, its most likely to be elec prob or AT oil....

best of luck
