As you know my previous car (excluding the Mondeo ST24) was a 1993 J-Spec MK4 Supra Twin Turbo and some of you have asked if at some point I could submit my opinions/comparisons regarding the two:

 

1) Looks - As everyone knows, looks are subjective but my preference is the Supra. There's something about the 300s interior that I prefer though. Not sure what. Maybe the whole cockpit feel thing. I feel more enclosed in the Z, which is how I like it!!!

 

2) Performance - The Supra wins in this department, basically because of the smooth delivery from it's straight 6 and sequential turbo setup. The 300 is f'king FAST but the Supra definately has the edge. I noticed the 300s turbo's seem to run out of efficiency towards the top end of the rev range, whereas the Supra's will keep going.

 

3) Handling - I don't know if this is because I drove a Mondeo for a year but the 300s handling seems smoother. The Hicas certainly helps. I can swing this car around corners at high speeds without much effort. I haven't tried it in the wet yet.

 

I could go on more, but I don't think it's neccessary. I love both cars and personally I don't think it's fair to comprehensively compare these cars. Each to their won. They're both very good at what they do...

And so it should be better perfomance wise - as Toyota delayed the introduction of this Vehicle because the 300zx was far better than they first anticipated, i think what people forget is that when you compare the 300zx when it was launched - what were the competition? - Old shape RX7 - old supra - it blew them both away, i think the better comparison would be the Supra against the R33 GTR - R34GTR in which case - it wins in the looks department lol, but not around a track or where it really matters.

 

i like both, but id rather have my 300zx over a poorpa any day :D

Yeah, that is a good point. Toyota did have an extra 3 years to sort it out... Before the MK4 I would've had a 300ZX over a MK3 anyday!!!

 

Now given the choice between a MK4 Supra and R34, it'd be an R34. Wouldn't even have to think about it. R33 and MK4 Supra - Hard choice!!!

Then it was a sierra you mean?

I was lucky enough to have one of the original Sierra Cosworths from new for 4 years. It was a great car (not to be confused with the family models).

 

Midway through my "Sierra" ownership I saw one of the first 300ZXs, and thought one day! I also had a Imprezza Turbo for a few years, before the Z. Interestingly, I rate the Cossy ahead of the (UK spec) 4WD Imprezza. I feel that both are ahead of my Z for handling though. But I just love the Z......

 

What is the handling of the Supra like? Like most, I did wonder about the Supra and 3000GT, but I was already won over by a Fairlady!!
