I am getting part worns just to see me though, I can get some 225 55 16's for £30 but my tyre size is 225 50 16....are these safe to use and what side effects will I notice? I know this may have been posted before in some form or other but finding it is difficult - any help appreciated..

Hi ya dont feel too bad about having to buy part worn. When I ran a Sierra Cosworth with Escort Wheels on it was the only practical way to get tyres unless your in bed with the bank manager every 10 months you know lowered with back wheels looking like a cart carring 10 ton does nothing for the inside edge of the tyres.I looked at like this at least you can get a look inside the tyres and the backs etc,I mean when you buy a car second hand it in effect has part worns on and the seller doesnt let you look inside of them! But wiil sy ensure they are evenly worn and at least 5 to 6 mill or you will be in the same position in 5 or 6 months time. The tyre size difference you mentioned will slightly effect the rolling radias and the side wall hight(slightly taller) but I doubt you will notice that much. Jeff TT

These should be safe to use, as long as the tyres you get are sound and have no dodgy puncture repairs. The only differences you may notice are a fractionally softer ride and a slight difference in speedo accuracy. If you want to work it out you can with help from the tyre size charts in the Tech Section here http://www.aus300zx.com

Alternatively, you have have a shufti here :- http://www.mindspring.com/~toy4two/tire.html

and trust someone elses calculations.
