You may remember a little while back i raced my work mate in his tvr griffiths 500, well he picks his cerbera up on wed, its the 4.2. 0-100 in 9.9 secs, thats 10 mph per sec up to a hundred:confused:  , he is grinning and laughing now saying i have no chance, and im wondering weather to bother if its going to be a slaughtered z, as i just know he wont ever shut up about it, well how bad will it be do you reckon????? Should i bother?/

hate to say this but what ive gatherd about tvr"s

they kick ass.. sugest you take a long holiday

away from your friend . then possibly

move to another country...

.... good luck...

well you will hit 100 in just over 14seconds in the zed

at least the rear of cerberas are sexy

Well, they're OK if you like plastic cars made in Blackpool powered by the Rover V8. Which I think someone once told me was a copy of the Chevy V8 or is that just idle gossip?

Actually, I quite like them. A mate's got one (his second) and he is well chuffed. But he did get his dad to be co-owner and keeps it at his dad's house 'cos he can't use it as a daily driver.....

And they are just performance sports cars - they have no other use. If you want a reliable daily driver with performance, I might suggest a Japanese make (loads of dealers, plus specialist engineers plus normal price parts easily available). A coupe would be nice for the extra space - emergency rear seats (well you wouldn't want to use them regularly not unless you really hate the adults you're forcing to sit in the back).

And you've got loads of room for ICE if you want it.

A nice V6 with turbo for excellent performance and room for easy / medium / hard performance upgrades depending on your wishes and wallet.

Lots of tech - 4ws, sensors all all over the place for the ECU.

Timeless very cooool looks. That lift in the heart rate every time you plip the remote to get in it.

Traditional front engine / RWD for that proper sports feel.

The smile as you idle for a few moments before setting off just to get the oil circulating nicely.

That enormous sh1t-eating grin as you hit the first motorway sliproad after everything has warmed up nicely.

hmmmmm wonder where I can get one of those from?

hehehehe :D - Gio

PS "dollar for dollar - it's the best damn sports car on the planet" still true!

Oi! :D ;) :D

Gio,

Sorry to sound pretentious but the Cerbera engine is not Rover, its a TVR racing engine.

Last year I had a TVR Chimaera 4.5 (Rover engine !!) and a 360BHP 300ZX. I raced them together and there was nothing in it. The Cerbera though, thats a different story.

The Cerberas (especailly the 4.5) are very quick quick when they're running, but spend half their life at the dealer getting new engines, gearboxes and clutches. They make the 300ZX look reliable :-)

Andy

You've probably got no chance against him - cerberas are fast!!!!

I did test drive a Tuscan a while back - just for fun. I wasn't comfortable with it. Too noisy and uncomfortable. The cerbera is more practical though.

Geoff.

Just ram the f*cker!!:D :D :D

Just have a good race , it's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts!!

Is it b*llocks!!:D :D

I will do my best, it will b good to see it floored, prob be up a straight section of road again too. Im taking him to leeds to pick it up on wed pm, but i will take him in my peugeot diesel not the zed, so wont know till poss friday. Heres something tho, was reading an old what car which says after 100 mph its no longer power to weight, its then all about power to aero dynamics??? anyone know the co efficient of both ??, his is 360 bhp, mine was dynod at 289 rwhp, since then it has had a jwt chip in stalled, so will i be near that fig at flywheel too? how much power do you loose thru the drivetrain?

i think youll find it has to do with weight, the Cerbra weighs 400 plus kilos less than your zed and as you drive down the road that figure will come down to (:D:D:D)

drivtrain loss on a manual is around 12-15% Auto is a little more id imagine.

Aerodynamics count for alot over 100mph aswell. The thing is they are iether very fast and unreliable or not to fast and unreliable lol.

But very cool non the less.

Interesting - I nearly bought a cerbera before I finally went for the trusty Z. For me it was a question of reliability and practicality of the cabin space. (Oh yes and the z was about 10 grand cheaper!) I was talked out of the TVR by a friend who owned one for 10 months, 7 of which were spent in the garage being fixed!

In standard guise the Cerbera will outdrag a standard Z, but it doesn't take too much investment to level the playing field. The Z I bought is certainly as fast and would give a 4.2 a good run for it's money.

Just wait for a damp autumn morning and then pop round to see him, but you might have to help him get his Cerby started first!

if you carnt beat him

ram his assss at least ..

go for it.......man ..

I had a Cerbera 4.2 for a year before I got my Z.

Wasn't too unreliable but there were always niggly things wrong with it that needed to be sorted out at the main dealer... same as the Zed generally has niggly things wrong with it, but then I lost more in a years ownership of the TVR than the purchase price of my Zed!

Used it as a daily driver - okish but they don't like traffic - overheat like buggary and make you nervous as hell about sitting still - not what you imagined it would be like when you picked it up on that glorious summer's day.....

As for speed - a 4.2 (my mate's still got one) will be faster than a Zed in standard form but I don't think there's much in it between my Zed and his Cerb now.

My Zed is manual, has induction kit, chip, kakimoto racing exhaust - that I know of. I do think it's perhaps quite quick for a Zed but not sure by how much.

Also, you've got to remember. Cerbera's are only as fast as the mags say when conditions are perfect and they are running well. Mostly they are running a touch ropey and/or can't get the power down. People say the Zeds are bad in the wet - haha... the Cerb was fun.

Give it a go and see how you get on. If all else fails race him on a tour around your nearest city in rush hour. If his car doesn't overheat and worry the crap out of him and cause him to stop he'll at least be so hot and sweaty you'll have scored a different type of victory! :D

Cheers for that cerb, mine has about the same level of mods as your z by the sound of it, so you never know till you try eh, tvr reckon 185 plus for the cerb ? thats some speed mind eh, did you ever go flat out in yours ???

Not flat out no... got banned on the way there unfortunately :( Wouldn't fancy doing 185 in one anyway - they don't feel too planted at very high speeds.

I'm in Newcastle on the weekends actually - you may have seen my Zed around Jesmond - Silver, M -Reg with the quad light conversion. What's yours like? I've seen a red one about...

You may have seen my mate's Cerb too. It was parked on Osborne road for ages. Cherry Pearl (Red) with Tuscan alloys - no plate C2 ERB. Mine was up there too but it was a while ago - Moonraker Black with the Tuscan alloys. S reg.

I'll look out for you!

Chris

Go for it mate. It's a shame i don't have the video in P.C. format of me beating a Cerbera at North Weald last summer. If you showed him that first you sure would dent his confidence.

Make sure you go from a standing start as a lot of it depends on the Cerberas ability to get the power down and launch.

That's one of the reasons I beat the Cerb, even on a warm sunny day he couldn't get it to hook up. I had the same problem with my TVR 400SE.

BTW it was originally a Buick engine, that rover developed and then TVR.
