For a laugh i fitted one to my NA

looked like a drain pipe !! hehe

well when i turn it on with normal revs the engine cuts out cry cry

the air flow is going the correct way so what is it?

do i need to be going fast before i turn iot on?

My mate thinks it maight give me a extra 5 bhp and i got it cheap!!

oh so i should floor it and turn it on

To be honest, no idea mate. Just that I found the site when I got intrigued in your post about electric superchargers and wasted time when I should be working on search engines!

Is it the same piece of kit as the one you've got? If so, it might be worth dropping them an e-mail.

The supercharger theory seems to work OK but whether or not you can practically get any advantage on fitting to such a sophisticated motor is a moot point. Think I'll let someone else find that out!

Cheers - Gio

read about this in a mag about 4 or 5 years ago thay put it on a XR3i and i thing it losts 8bhp. I take it of

jay

Hey you work on search engines. i built one and our sister company is http://www.mirago.com

its only 240cfm i might try it at full revs!

I am scared to turn it on when moving case i crash
im sorry but nearly fell off my seat when i read this:D :D

Ummm.... would the extra load on the alternator cancel out some of the power gains?

but this post is the best ive laughed at in ages

Shut it!

Whats wrong with trying things out

I have leant more about fixing my z now so i did gain.

Anyway will wire up tomorrow again and try it at foot to the floor

If you dont here form me i crashed!

but when ya car goes bang its gonna cost a fortune to fix!!!

good luck, but i would of just bought a twin turbo m8

could it blow my engine

but what do u no when ya fitting a diy supercharger to a 300zx????

i wouldnt take the risk even with a hair dryer

I have to laugh!! There is no way that a hairdryer, sorry "Electric Supercharger" could flow enough air to keep up with your engine at 3000rpm let alone 6000rpm+. I am not trying to put your idea down but the physics just don't add up.

If it was so great then it would have been done to death by now! by the manufacturers!!

Nitrous!!!!! Thats all I will say about it.

(NO insults intended by this posting)

burf is this all a joke??, ROFLMAO

If you dont here form me i crashed!
How would a fan heater strapped to your airbox make you crash?? Are you expecting such a sudden surge of boost that your eyes fail to focus and your ears pop sending you carrering out of control???, to avoid this maybe you should find a disused airfield or something, maybe even see if norriss mcwerta is knocking about to witness it;)

Tears of laughter a rolling down me face:D :D certainly cheerd me up after a knackering day at work,no offence to ya burf2000,at least ya having a go at it,hope nothing goes pop!:( ,keep us all informed as to the next trial run, cant wait:D :D :D

Great thread this, pehaps using some parts from a dyson cyclone vacum cleaner might be a good mod??;)

Perhapse the DC03 would be the best choice. And No bags!!!

OMG - just read this off the above site:-

This is the reason for the waste gates and relief valves with turbos and superchargers. They run continuously, but the pressure is bled off until the total power of what could be produced through normal aspiration is exceeded.

WTF???? :D:D:D They really know their stuff don't they - NOT :D I wouldn't touch their stuff with YOUR barge pole never mind mine :D Anyway, off to wipe the tears from my face ;)

CheerZ,

Andy

LMAO :D

Well I'd be surprised if it doesn;t. That's what it's supposed to do :D :D.

Simon, to be honest with you mate. for the sake of 5BHP or what ever tha gain is, you won't really notice anything.

If you really want a faster 300zx. Save up for Nos or buy a TT.

OK sorry about my getting blown on the cheap joke!

Seriously if the leccy supercharger draws 50Amp running it would prolly need 200 amps starting up and the battery volt drop at that point might be enough to temporarily kill the ecu supply and injectors / coil packs etc. Look at the ecu diagram and manual and see the voltages the ecu monitors - if the battery volts drops it can cause all kinds of system issues.

I think the single speed thing is a problem too. A leccy supercharger would need to be variable speed variable airflow and interfaced and matched to the ecu to really work. Anything else is a botch up. Also if you started it before starting the engine the air pressure and extra air pushed in at idle is going to mess up the idling mixture. At big throttle openings the engine will probably gulp air faster than this thing can deliver it. In between its going to provide too much air at small throttle openings and the ecu is depending on a predicable amount of air depending on throttle position sensor position. I dont think the ecu can simply leave it to the mass air flow sensor to measure the extra air but like most contributors to this thread I'm no expert!

I think this could only give real gains if it can deliver much more air than the engine can consume at full throttle ie make positive boost presure and I have doubts about that. Anything in the middle of the powerband is pretty useless.

still nothin ventured etc

LOL!! does that mean when you crank the engine over on the starter it will kill the injector/coil pack supply then?? ;)

Awright Paul it sounds a bit dumb I know but on proper starting of a Z all kinds of things are going on.

Diagnostics run on systems to check all kinds of stuff and for a very short period normal systems monitoring and protection is inhibited to enable it to start in the first place. Your fuel injection for example simultaneously squirts fuel into all six cylinders twice per rpm until it starts then reverts to sequential injection as each cylinder needs it. The mixture control system checks the exhaust sensors and does its feeback thing. warm up mixture routine and so on. If you dump the voltage after its running it will probably stall as the ecu computer crashes.

See the EFEC section in the manual. Its a good read!

For example low battery volts when running will cause your ecu to change the ignition timing to the safety map. Yor engine might revert to failsafe running and run rough - ask the guys on here who found the car suddenly ran better after changing a duff battery? Why would a duff battery affect the running if the battery voltage was not critical to normal systems operation once it was started.

not sure how that can be affected by changing battery if the alternator is putting 14.4 volts in a dead battery the voltage would surely not drop, unless there was a short in the cells maybe?

We were all wrong, you see where has he gone?? hes crashed hasnt he, it was v powerful after all, and now you can all hang your heads in shame for laughing, maybe he switched it on at 140 and went off into another dimension some where?? who knows where,?? anyone see a zed go rocketing past them, you will know if it was him as it would have sounded like a milk float with after burneres on lol
