Hks Electronic Boost Valve Controller

Hi,

I have recently bought a 300ZX from Japan which is equipped with a HKS Electronic Boost Valve Controller. When I bought the car from the importer he told me not to touch it! But today, after a week, I turned it on. Now I've never been in one of these cars before, and for the last week I thought it was fast - however now I have this HKS thing turned on, it's rapid!!!

The only problem is I don't quite know how to use it, and what boost levels are safe?

When I turned it on, it was set at (I think) 0.9 bar, which is 13psi. I turned it up to 1 bar, which is 15psi !!!!! Now is this pressure at each turbo, or do I half this pressure because it's a twin? And is this pressure dangerous? Because the car went so well!

The thing is, when the controller is switched off, there is no turbo lag what so ever, just a steady increase of power. When I turned it on, it was already set at 0.9bar, which give me a lot of turbo lag.

Basically, I don't know how its been set up in Japan, and what it's running at when the controller is switched off?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Tom

the pressure reading is overall pressure. 1 bar is fine IMO - just make sure you have an upgraded chip in the ECU or you could be underfuelling at higher pressures.

is that on the standard gauge or do you have an additional boost gauge - the stock one in the dash is very inaccurate.

it shouldnt effect lag at all - all it does is up the pressure the wastegate opens at.

Well this is what i dont understand, the boost guage on the dash board doesnt work - im guessing because of this electronic thing.

When i turned the HKS controller on - i pressed MODE and then their are two buttons "HIGH & LOW". It was at 0.9 and i turned it upto 1.0bar. the car went stupidly fast and it definitely had alot more kick around the 3000rpm mark. I dont have a reading telling me the pressure but im guessing that by setting it to 1.0Bar it will only go to this??

Do you know where i can get instructions on this thing??

It has another setting that i havn't touched and an "over boost light". Oh and their is something you can set to 15seconds ?? and also a button that when you press it starts bleeping crazy!!
