Err...I checked my water two days ago (I normally check it every couple of weeks) and it had gone right down and every time I topped it up (must have taken a couple of pints!) bubbles of air came to the surface and the level depleted again! It did eventually top up and I took it for a spin, checked again and it was still at the correct level.

But I looked yesterday and it had gone right down again....ARSE!

Should I be fearing the worst here guys? D'oh! :( :( :( :(

top it right up - leave it idling good an hot and watch underneath for leaks! Or worse still water going out the overflow.

The little short hoses behind the top water connection can be a bitch and fail about every 3 or 4 years

Nice one, I'll try that. Does this even sound like the head gasket going coz I was under the impression with my last motor that this sort of thing happened gradually rather than just being fine one day, and then losing a sh*tload of water the next?

Nightmare:(

Have you had the thermostat replaced ?

It's probably ceased up and the water will flow out of the overflow, once the car warms up.

...mine did the same last summer. Bearing seal in the waterpump packs up and you loose water at varying rates depending on how hot / type of motoring. Can't remember what the pump cost - I think about £50 from Mike Freeney? - Bar stool to fit. When it's leaking you can see a wet patch on the upperside of the plastic engine guard under the engine.

good luck
