Hi guys,

think I got a problem and need to know how much it's gonna cost?

between 50 and 80 MPH the steering starts to wobble, you know like rotate quickly back and forth through a couple of degrees.

(can you tell I'm V.technical on these things?)

Seems fine at lower or high speeds if a bit light

Am I talking mega bucks and ripping out steering, or a cheap "hit it with a hammer" solution?

Cheers

First things first, take it to a decent type fitters who have dynamic wheel balancing (most do these days). Should cost no more than £10. After that then we can think about other possible problems.

Got a similar problem in my Z at the mo and have found there is a bit or play in the rear rack. Might be worth taking a look at that too.

Cheers guys,

I had new tyres fitted a month ago or so and they did the balancing and tracking then, I don't think I've hit any pot holes or kerbs since then. But I'll check in with them again, as you say it only costs a tenner.

Don't know about play in the steering rack, but I guess that would show up at all speeds???

If it's not one of these what else could it be? By the sounds of it these are the cheap options :(

Do as andy says first, if you have lost a wheel weight that would cause it, pointless worrying till youve done this hth;)

I've been to places where they don't always get it right when they balance the wheels Krap-Fit. Consider trying someone different to 'verify' the balancing is correct.

I found the rear rack wasn't noticeable at lower speeds, only about about 50 which is why I first thought it was wheel balancing. Got the wheels checked at two different garages and they were fine. Only found there was play in the rack after the car went in for some other work.

right'o

I'll take the car into an independant garage this weekend and see what they say.

Cheers for the help. I'll let you know how I get on.
