Quick question for all you mechanically minded ones out there. My everyday motor is an 827 V6 rover, sure it wallows in corners but it sees off more modern stuff in a straight line and sounds right too.

But the heaters stopped giving me heat. Checked all the usual things, it isnt leaking at the matirx, all the controls are working, plenty of water in the system, but just cant seem to get any heat.

Anyone got any useful suggestions as to what it could be???

assuming that the blower is working fine ... flaps directing heat

 

 

if thew car is a few years old ...... cooling systems go rusty .... all the cotaminates from the engine ... older cars especially, u may simply have a blocked matrix ....

 

try cleaner for the cooling system ... u will get this in most auto part stores .....

 

personally i dont think these work to well .... u will prob have to flush it with a hose .....

 

remove the pipes for the heater matrix .. determin which way the coolant flows ..... flush the system backwards ..... if it is blocked it will be at the intake side ....

Flaps and everything working fine.

Car is K plate so 10 years old.

I know exactly where the inlet and outlet are and they arent in the easiest place to get to, but if nowt else turns up was gonna give that a go anyway.

It aint as bad as the 300 for lack of space in the engine compartment but it aint so roomy!!! Such is the joy of cramming a V6 in there!!

Hi my 2nd is a 800 Vitesse Sport 200bhp turbo with near rigid shockers - anyway I think the Honda engined 827 one has a fine matrix heater core that is a susceptable to corrosion - there are warnings about not using Radweld stuff in it as it also blocks easy.

 

Or you could have an airlock in it.

 

Maybe reverse flushing will shift it

check behind the firewall or bulkhead under bonnet and there should be a vacuum operated valve for the water supply to the heater matrix .check by feel both sides of valve to see if waterflow goes through it or wether hot water going in to matrix and not coming out first.

I traced the prob to this valve last night. There is a small feed to the valve and whenu release the feed pipe the heat gets throu, so must be something to do with the control of it.

 

Will have it off at the weekend (leaving myself wide open!!)
