Just finished polishing the car and noticed underneath that a belt was showing. Pulled it out and it is snapped. I havent a clue how long it has been like that but all seems to be ok.

Opened the bonnet and it is the one to the right of the fan and seems to link about 3 cogs (is that the right term?) together.

Could someone please tell me what it is for, would i have done any damage and how much to replace.

Many thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,

Does this help...

It maybe the one that goes around the A/C compressor, Idler pulley and Crankshaft pulley, if it is I'm not sure what the effects would be. frown.gif

Trev.

IT DOES SOUND LIKE AIR CON BELT IF SO

IT JUST MEANS YOUR PUMP WONT BE WORKING AND THEREFORE NO AIR CON,

check that the pump hasnt seized as a precaution if not belts are easily replaced and relatively cheap. if it is the air con belt you are ok to run the car but makr sure it isnt the belt driving the water pump if it is dont run the engine till its replaced

how would i check if the pump has seized?

To check if the pump has siezed, if I remember right, try turning the inner pulley on the pump.

Or try putting a new belt on it, then watch the pump (the outer pulley should spin all the time) and get a friend or relative to engage the aircon inside the car.

The pump clutch should engage the inner pulley and spin the whole unit.

If it does spin and no cold air is coming out then you could be low (or have a leak) or R12.

This can be replaced with,I think, r69 or something equivelant as r12 is banned by the barmy nutters in Brussels frown.gif

Yep , It 100% the Compresspr belt for the Aircon , I only know as i changed mine the other week , It's £14.00 (Nissan) so nothing to worry about and it doesn't do any harm driving the car without it, just no aircon .

GEE The R12 is expenissve tho !!!

Cheers DAZ
