just wondering about people who have changed the dial faces on their clocks, how they did it. I've seen it mentioned that if it's done wrong (when the needles are removed), then that's it - the dials are screwed.

Is there anyway of putting on the faces without removing any needles?

Cheers

Vijay

ooh, yes m8.

Id leave them well alone. Normally you can get the needle off the spindle by pulling gently on it. On a zed it doesnt work that way, you pull gently and the whole centre of the speedo comes out. You can put it back in but it will never work again. Apparently the only way around it is to cut the face and slide it over the spindle, but i reckon that would look crap.

Luke from the z centre can do them but he let out no secrets when i called him.

You can get the needle off if you hold the shaft in place with a pair of long nosed pliers, but getting it back in the right place is the tricky bit ! Best left alone in my experience.

well I've got no bloody chance of finding out from him then:D :D

There's no way I can cut the face, they'll never work again:confused:

So is it just the speedo that's the problem?

Luke fitted my silver clocks (see RIDES) and when it came to the needle changing bit he said "right then, you want to get yourself something to eat for an hour or so"

what about removing the smaller end of the needle. Would they then just slip over?

Morning Iain,

no, I meant cutting the smaller end of the needle off, not removing it - what do you think?

Vijay

Are you trying to fit a MPH plate in place of a KPH? If so GAS CAR Ltd of Bexley sell a £85 de-restriction kit so you don't need to remove the face, just stick a MPH sticker over the KPH mark.

no, just trying to put some aftermarket faces on.

Oh, sorry.:(

i have a series two cluster at home. (if it was you who was asking lol)

they are tricky but it can be done.

I have a theory that I will test one day (on someone elses clocks ! lol)

Firstly you remove the needle from the spindle (without breaking it) by using the aforementioned thin nosed pliers.

Change the clock faces to whatever pretty colours take your fancy

Then to get the needle back in the right place you need power to the device, such that it would normally position the needle in line with the 'zero' indicator (remember they are usually a little below that when the power is off), put the needle back, in line with the zero and hey presto it should work right ......

PS Forgot the bit about throw a double six and rub the lucky rabbits foot before you start !

luke at the Z center is doing mine as we speak.................magnolia dials with dark blue numbers to match the interior, also having a dark oak wood kit fitted, i know this will not be to everyones taste but what the hell.

:D :D
