Just coming home from work about 10 mins ago and the bloody car started to misfire again!!!!What the f**k can it be cos its just come back from a month at nissan and they said the only thing wrong with it was the MAS.If its not right tomorrow i'm taking it straight back to chorley as its got a 1 year warranty on it.I have a sneaking suspision thats its going to cost me a fortune as they will say its something new, and i'm fast running out of money to keep repairing it.If it does cost me, then that will be it for me so if anyone is interested in in buying a very good zed with a few things done to it then give me a ring or email your number and once its running properly again i'll probably sell it. My number is 07815915590 anytime between 8.00 and 22.00.

Hang in there mate,i know how ya feel,is AndyDuff near you, maybe he could take a look,;)

Mine has gone wrong a few times and all the time its running like sh1te-you wanna sell it. But when its all fixed and running sweet you just know there's no way you're gonna part with it.

I know how you feel though bud but hang in there........read as much as poss, learn what you can and maybe try fixing it yourself?

Good luck.

I also know exactly how you feel. My car has never run right since the day I got it. I have spent £1000's trying to find out what the problem is and replacing almost everything. I think the problems have finally been found and it looks like the wiring loom is not making good contact due to corrosion. Having a new loom put in this weekend, so fingers crossed. If it does fix it, it will be the first time the car has run on all 6 cylinders at the same time since I got it!!!

It could be a number of things making it misfire.

Have you run an ECU diag ?.

For some reason the Diag doesn't show up O2 sensors as a fault, but if you run it in mode one, you can probably identify and problems with O2 there.

People seem to interpret a mis fire in a number of ways.

1) hesitation when running at a constant low rpm speed and trying to accelerate gradually (more like a slight jerking motion)

2) Hunting - the car when idle drops to about 500 rpm and then the ECU brings it back up to about 800 before it stalls. The RPM goes up and down at idle.

3) Slight misfire, the car jolts and jumps now and then

4) Running of 5 cylinders, the car sounds like some old American clapped out van putting and jumping.

Which one best describes yours ?

If you can find someone on here with ConZult they should be able to find any faults fairly quickly. Found a faulty O2 sensor on my Z.

Thanks guys, my car sounds like a machine gun when you try to accelerate. It 'jumps' violently with each bang and nearly stops dead in the road and doesn't clear no matter how much i try to rev it. I'm taking it to nissan cos it's just had a brand spanker put on and i won't have to pay for them to look at it. Also if it is the MAS then its now my FOURTH since christmas. i put a new one on, the car runs for about 1 month sweet as a nut then goes without warning. I think something is shafting the unit somehow.

If anyone has got a consult near me then give us a shout....i'll pay for any go-juice and there might be a pub lunch and a few beers in it for someone!!!

I got one mate, I'm in Romford. Not sure how close that is to you.

Its a long way mate...probably cost about £100 in fuel just to get here!!!!!!!!!Thanks anyway tho.

Hey r u the guy with the grey zed in Morecambe, nice car I seen it last week when I was visiting is it stock power wise or have you modded it? looked like a v. nice car, blacked out windows, p.s I might have acces to a consult if your interested seeing as I'm a bit nearer. You're not doing yourself any favours taking it to Nissan!!

I'm afraid you'll have to get use to it owning a zed!!!

Finally figured out what was wrong with it.Before i drove it to nissan i emptied the tank and filled it up again.......the car is now running sweet as a nut.Looks like i had dodgy optimax in it!!!!!!!!! Still went to nissan and they ran it through the consult and they said apparantly my base idle was all to cock and i had to book it in.The car is idling ok though, nothing to bad the only thing i've noticed is since i've got the car is when it comes to a stop it sits at about 1100rpm for about 30 seconds then drops down to about 750,I thought this was normal though.

mmmmmmmm,Optimax!,when i contacted a mate who works at Nissan, was a engineer, now service manager, when i told him what had happend to my Z,first thing he asked was "have you been running it on Optimax all the time"apparently it goes off after a period of time and can cause major problems, allso just to add there has been a huge debate on the GT-R Register bulletin boards for some time, one thing that has emerged is that the Optimax in this country is not the same as the Optimax sold in rest of Europe etc! Some people believe it can cause valves to burn out etc:eek: Who knows for sure!, but as i say theres big debates going on about this.

Glad to hear your Zs now ok

Seriously?

SH*T !!!

You mean we pay more for our fuel than almost any other place on the planet and for our investment we gain the capability od burning out valves?

SH*T!!

F$%^#ING country! Its about right!

You sure you`re serious here? Can my beloved optimax really be harming my old thunder?

Well the thread on there site has well over 10,000 views and 100s of post so it would, for those wanting more info to join the site and check it out,i have been following it for some months now, amazing stuff to say the least, this is a snippit,

Why is Optimax so variable?

Age, 'Optimax' has a 'tank life' it degrades quite rapidly as the super hot benzene 'loses' it volitility after just 40days in the tank [the one in your car or the one in the ground at you petrol station.

From this day, if you use it, then ask the attendent when the last delivery of it was, if he can't answer then get the Manager, I've started doing this lately and they are blissfully unaware of the time thing so answer with a flourish of paperwork and a quizzical look. My rule is simple, look at the docket, it says size of tank 10k ltrs, the discharged amount AT LEAST 90% is needed to keep it at the 97/98 ron, the stuff in the tanker will be 98. this started from the simple question posed me 'What RON is Optimax' the answer is......enhanced 95ron...this is to avoid prosecution by the Customs and Excise if they perform one of their checks.

It also scrubs the tank, and this may well be what fooked Adis' cats, his explanation of events fits the dirty tank scenario, apparently the smallest tank on the forecourt is selected [this bit also explains why it is not available nationally] It is cleaned and sealed with an inert gas awaiting its new load, the inert gas does escape and if the gas is not present the new surface scales into rust, the oxide is bad for the SH Benzene and makes it behave oddly during burning, there is a precipitate (solid) formed and this is what I think got Adis cat in trouble, the heating of the solid means that it can perforate the matrix of the cat blowing a hole clean thu it in a few hudred miles.

Adis problem too has vexed me but now I see a good reason for the odd occurence.

Any input? Anyone?

> Adi is a member of the LSOC who has had a something odd occur to his 1JZ engine and cat. (from the LSOC)

The thread is titled "Optimax, the cause of unexspected big bills"

and a thread titled "Octane Booster" is truly huge, all about Optimax etc;)

Cheers Tony, will keep my peepers on that one. Suppose it only stands to reason really. Optimax is more volatile than normal unleaded and therefore less stable. Still though.....it is definately gonna pay to be careful in future

Thanks again
