SOS can anyone help my car is running on saftey boost and I have no idea why this is happening it dose not go past 0. it has now began to drink petrol like there is no tomorrow if you leave it to idle of a while it cuts out. "can any one help!" Any ideas what should i check or failing that. is there any compentant garage i can take it to get it sorted I live in enfield

Thats not safety boost m8. That happens when one of the turbo's is dead. But I wouldnt have thought that would cause it to stall:confused: Maybe you have a boost hose off somewhere.

try checking your power transistor unit. it is attached to the cam cover on the right hand side. This is a common problem for pre-93 production car. There is a possibility that the engine stalling might be caused by the PTU due to vibrations & heat.

 

The PTU is a pack of six power transistors which behave as solid-state relays to switch 12v current to each coil pack under the control of signals from the ECU. It is the rectangular device bolted to the right hand cam belt cover. The wiring to the PTU runs across the front of the engine, then down the left hand side, where it joins the main ECU wiring loom. Several other harnesses are taken off the PTU harness bundle on the way back to the firewall.

 

Common symptoms are:-

1- Failures can be intermittent - causing loss of ignition to one or more cylinders - or

2- Failure can be complete and sudden, causing instant stalling - very dangerous in heavy traffic

3- The component fails at 100,000-130,000 kms.

Its got a write up on the PTU.

The guage not going past 0 is your give-away. If you can get another gauge to check it then do so - but it looks like one of 2 things - a turbo problem - or a boost leak - with the engine running have a listen under the bonnet to see if you can hear anything.

I have now got smoke pouring out of passenger side EX, Ive got oil in the intake pipes on the passenger side and the car runs like a dog & drinks like a fish and guess what iv'e only had the car two weeks :( has any one got any idea whats going on and where i can take the car to get it sorted

dont drive it anymore!!!!!! at least not till you get it checked & repaired, you risk doing more damage

what are you looking to do - new turbo's?

well Vijay I just want to get it checked and sorted and turbos if they are needed can you recomend anywhere ?

well I've got an ex Nissan mechanic who owns and worked on 300's. He's just finished one of the guys car from here and it's purring like a kitten. He's a real genuine guy who takes pride in what he's doing. I can ask him tomorrow if you want, I can't gaurantee he'll do it cos he's real busy, but I can ask.
