Hey folks,

Just recently, my zed started making a nasty noise from the front pass side wheel area. When I'm turning right, mostly round roundabouts, there's a screetchy/whiney type noise - like metal edge on metal edge. I can't see anything tho  . Any ideas what this might be. It happened all today, and once before (also sunny and warm IIRC?).

Any ideas what this might be? Another way to describe the noise is like a large heavy gate, or a safe, being opened, it's very odd  .

Cheers for any help :)

Pete

Check your wheel bearing.

It may be that your brake pads need changing. Mine is making this noise- the sound is made by a wear indicator which rubs against the disc. A damn site more annyoying than a little red light on the dash to show the pads need changing

I've also had a slight judder when braking gentle at higher speeds, doesn't happen all the time tho.

How do I check the bearings, do I simply take the wheel off and give the hubs a shake?

Searching on the subject brings up worn disks or wheel bearings. The front disks do look *quite* worn so I'll order some new ones and hopefully that'll help.

Another thing that happened today is my centre cap cover thingy that covers the wheel nuts has come off  and gone - probably rolling along the A1. Don't know how but the large screw thread (2.5 - 3" diameter) has sheared completely. Looks like it had been broken a long time ago and hung on until now. Now that alloy looks pants! Its an excuse to nag for some new ones I suppose :D.

Cheers mate - hopefully it's this then. Sounds cheaper and more DIY friendly than wheel bearing :) More searches have mentioned sticking calipers

Cheers

Take all your wheel centre nuts off Pete, looks ok actually, sorry to hear you having a few probs, never ending saga of z ownership:( ,keeps ya occupied to say the least:D

Will see what it looks like Tony but don'e really wanna leave all the nuts exposed to the elements, probs seem v small compared to your current one :(. I expected to fork out here and there when I bought it so I'm not bothered about new parts eg bearings if need be. I just think of every replaced part as *improving* the car :) - kind of nice when you think of it like that.

Once this engines sorted i cant honestly think of anything left to replace looking at the service/work records,:D :D :D ;) hope ya get sorted soon,;)
