i'm two days away from ordering(from Japan that is) the car i always wanted and 99.99% i will be ordering the non-turbo version(manual). All the twin-turbos i have found for good money have been sold:(, and i'm not that lucky to find a TT Zed within my price range in two days time.

Can someone make me feel good about buying an NA cos i really need to?:(

hi,

i have a na swb manual with no abs for some reason! - i love it I have had turbo cars b4 gt4 /mr2turbo /cos (280bhp!) but i just preferred throttle response and the swb version of 300zx better handling +just looks right imho ! at least we havnt got all that hi-cas sh1t slowing us down :) and no turbos to go wrong I have de catted mine aswell it really is pretty quick enoegh for me anyways

cheers

Thanks mate! I definately needed that :D:D:D

at least we havnt got all that hi-cas sh1t slowing us down

How is it slowing the car down?

Are there any good mods without selling any body organs, and what are the power gains from such mods?

greetz

:) hi-cas is just x-tra mass thats all i meant ,actually the non turbo is about 100 kilos lighter i think -which is significant.

good luck with the purchase go for a manual if u can

Got a NA auto and its still pretty fast!

:)

What are the most common mods to an NA and what money should i expect to pay?

I think zorst, air filter / induction and chip

yes i think thats about it really although geoff at zed world said a chip isnt worth bothering with for an na - i would just de-cat and straight thro zorst and filter .

the auto is pretty quick i am not sure on the figures burf probably only .5 second in it at most between man/auto as an auto does change quicker- if u are getting dusted by alot of stuff on the road i would check any error codes

cheers

I know I'm tempting providence, but I've had my NA for 3 years and it's never been in a garage in that time, I do most repair things my self and only 'fault' in that time has been a waterpump failure.

...one of Nissans big mistakes never selling the NA in this country - just imaging how better things would have been, all these years later, having had the NA 300zx as the benchmark for everyday useable sports cars. By now we wouldn't be limited to those little Mazdas etc - we'd have some real cars to choose from...

i've had my NA Manual for 2 months now, I love it more everytime I drive it, especially when it's sunny with roof off!

It's not the "quickest feeling" car i've had, but it has sh#t loads of torque to accelerate in any gear....it doesn't "put you in the back of your seat" like a turbo, but more linearlly accelerates

I had my n/a for about a year before recently getting my tt, it was a manual and a swb with a ss zorst, and nothing out accelerated me in that year, a couple of things came close but i dont think anything won, they are a funny thing tho, they dont "feel" quick yet when you go up against a quick car and win you realise how quick they are, its the longest ive ever kept a car and i would happily have another one, there is so little to complain about with one they sound well go well look drop dead gorgeous(its a zed) are a tad better on fuel and definately handle better, my advice is get it and see, if you dont like it you can sell it, but i bet you dont want to part with it once you drive it hth

:)

Nice to hear good things about the NA.

Are they generally reliable?

just read the other thread about the NAs so my question has been answered. :)

hhhmmmm!

I'm going to be careful with what I say here because I feel this is a fine line.

I'm assuming that the reason that most of the TT owners have not said anything is because they could not see themselves in a N/A. I know I couldn't.

However, I suppose it's like most things, you adjust, but in your case XTT, if you've never had a TT the the NA is the next best thing.

OK OK, a TT has more headaches and overall higher bills but, in the end of the day, it's a TT, and that's rare by any standard.

I'm not trying to make you feel shit, quite the opposite in fact cus a Z is special regardless of what is under the bonnet. However, you sound like you have gone for the right choice. Alot of people would just buy a TT just for the sake of having one. I hope you have many a happy hour in it and I look forward to seeing you at the meets.

Cos

Cos, in no way i think NA is the right/better choice. I really wanted to go for the TT. In fact i found some nice examples in Japan and i didn't respond quickly to buy either of them. I know how it works with NA and TT. My best mate has a Supra TT and when i went to one of their meetings, the NAs were like a poor relative(you can't expect to have the same respect from the TT owners). The TT is a more rare car than the NA, it is a faster car and IMHO the price difference is not that big to justify someone choosing the NA over the TT. In my case the insurance is 100 quid cheaper. TBH, if i find an TT five minutes before i order the NA on friday, i will place an offer right away, without thinking anything. However, if i don't find an TT, this doesn't mean that i'm going to be unhappy with owning an NA. I just wanted to look on the bright side of owning an NA.

Cheers, XTT

Hmmm in that case wait my friend and get a tt, if you feel that way now it seems pointless getting an na, there are some nice tts in for sale section

I was going to get a TT but the insurances would be lots more (21)

My NA is cool and i had a look at lots of TT, i personally dont think a TT is rarer as they were shipped here and you can get one from japan very easily (http://www.group20.co.uk offered me 5 in 1 hour)

I would have liked a TT but it would have cost a load more on petro (i would have thought),

Its a great looking car and who cares if it dont have turbos, get NOS instead.

I've had my NA for six months now and love it to bits. :D :D

I think we'd all prefer to feel the kick of a TT, but I'm happy knowing I won't be paying out thousands to fix it next year! :(

Spend it on making it look luuuvvvvlllyy.

As for rarity, over here the TT is the common car as that's all that was sold here during its 'official' years.

The NA's are all j-spec imports.

i would wait for a tt as you seem to really want one i wanted a swb version - ideally tt but these are very rare and i am not that bothered about it .

all the best

I've had my NA for 6 months now and bought it more by luck than judgement but it was probably the best thing I have ever done. I'm sure the driving experience of a TT is better but the general public at large couldn't tell the difference and owning a Zed gives you fantastic kudos.
