I know I should look it up in the search....well I have and haven't found the answer I need!!;)

Can I get classic car insurance with a 1990 Japanese import?

My missus has a Pajero ( another import!!) and to try and save some money on our respective insurances , I was wondering if I could have the Z on classic and say the Pajero was the second car. Then have the missus as a named driver on them both! Unfortunately the Pajero is in her name.

Is this all wishfull thinking or has anyone got any ideas on this and also what the hell I'm talking about!!:D :D

Cheers,

F.T.

I've got my 1990 UK auto on classic insurance - I think you should be able to do it.

I've got mine limited to 5,000 miles a year - which works out around £350 fully comp. with NO ncb - I can use all of them on my 'sensible' car.

Hope this helps.

Following some good quotes on here from Carole Nash I gave them a call.

1991 Import Twin Turbo 2+2

South London postcode.

Parked on the road.

CAT 1 security.

6000 Miles pa.

28 yrs old.

= £673  :D

This is for classic cover, which means I can use my no claims on my other car! I double checked it was for an import and the lady said yes. This is a lot better than Adrian Flux, who charge me approx £800 with my 5 years NCB.

Give them a call: Carole Nash - 0800 298 5500

... and do you have to insure the other car with the same insurer? I ask because my curretnt insurer will not insure me on a Zed (should I eventually get one!) and so I would lose the last 7 months-worth of no claims would effectively be lost if I had to transfer to another insurer. The only solution I can think of is to insure another car on the existing policy, keep accruing NCB, and take classic insurance with another insurer for the Zed.

Does that work?! (/make sense?)

Cheers

When I spoke to Carole Nash asking if they'd insure my import, they said yes, had second thoughts and then said no!

Still worth a try though.

i tried insurance factory. they said i have to be 30 or near thirty i.e. 29 for them to give me a decent quote. cheers anyway.these companies have so many criteria for you to fill. i am 26 and tried saying i was closer to 30 then 20. then i tried getting it insured on my fathers name, luckly he just gone 30 (50). but hey said it was based on the highest risk driver i.e. me.

Have you tried Confused Thats where I got my best quote from and they do specify that the car is imported.

Here is the post that promted me to call Carole Nash.

That is why I asked chappie to fax me the quote details over. It all looks exactly as it should. 1991 Imported 2+2 TT: cost of premium = not much.

Isn`t it a bugger though that when something goes well I have to ask what the catch is? I`ll let you know if all goes south but for right now it all looks good.

I too could not believe that these cheap quotes where for Imports, so I confirmed with the lady who was doing my quote at Carole Nash. She said "Yes, import is no problem".

I think the people at Carole Nash had a "quote quota" to reach methinks!!

I didnt not take up the quote as I expect to sell my car within the next few months. So I am still with Adrian Flux (08700 777888).

The good thing about "Footman James" is that you can insure a second car at a discounted rate equivalent to your no claims discount on your main car.

just phoned firebond. they dont insure japanese imports especially modifed ones!!!!!. from what i could make out they dont insure jap imports. I`m phoning footman james now................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... the gave me a ridiculous quote.

I just changed to Insurance Factory - £478 Classic Insurance 5000 miles per annum.

Geoff.

I just insured my 90n/a classic insurance, croydon postcode ban and an sp50 on licence, 35 yrs old £995. Guess I will keep looking
