I recently upgraded my Nokia 9110i phone to an XDA.

Surfing the web I found a GPS receiver for it for only £80 - which I ordered. I then got hold of a copy of TomTom Navigator and installed it on Sunday.

Its great!! voice direction, full UK map, TRUE speed and direction this must be the cheapest sat nav system ever - unless you know otherwise?

p.s. I ahd to tell someone as I am so pleased with it!

It's funny you should bring this up.

How accurate is the Speed Reading? Is it tracked in real time, is there a delay?

I'm looking at getting a GPS since my speedo is so far out it would be interesting to know the exact speed I'm doing. But it's no good if there's a 20 sec delay between your speed and the GPS display.

Tim

This probably about a 1second delay in the speed. You can usually have a choice in the settings to save the batteries.

well you get an update from GPS every 10 meters,

I've seen GPS used to track stolen cars and it gives a speed readout but it updates every 1-2 seconds and bounds around a lot.

It updates once a second. I guess that the speed is a moving average and there must be some filtering of the positional data - but I got onto the motorway and hit cruise @ 2.5k rpm. The speedo showed 69 mph - the readout from the gps was a constant 64 mph.

I noticed a big difference in my speedo and GPS, there is a tread about this too somewhere.

Anyway, when my speedo was showing 100mph the GPS said 90 so there is a substantial difference there. Dont know which is correct, the latest satalite tracking system, or my 12 year old speedo. Hmmmm.

Hello Mate,

How do you rate your XDA and where how much did you pay?

I am thinking of getting one myself!

Mark

Where did you get TomTom and how much was it ? I have a PDA and also a GPS receiver so all I'd need is the lead.

I like the sound of what you've got ...

I rate the XDA better than the Nokia 9210i which I evaluated for Nokia in January and was twice the price! There are a couple of "rough" edges - fax software not bundelled in, SMS messages only show the number - not the person whereas any incoming call has the name of the person! But on the whole much better for me than 9210i - in my opinion. I love the GPRS as 3G is far too expensive, (and will be until 2005 at the earlyest).

It was over 12 months since my last upgrade with O2 so I gave then a ring - I use the O2 200 tariff and they said £159.99 for the XDA - I bit the guy's hand off!!

I got TomTom Navigator from a friend to see if I liked it - I have not registered it, (cos me mate has), so I can not get the updates. But after a couple of test drives I have decided to buy - the best price I have found is £90 unless you know otherwise.

probably a stupid question, but do you have to subscribe or anything, or is it just a case of buying the hardware and that's it.

Cheers

Zimon, know anywhere to get s/ware for the 9210i? I should be getting one in a couple of days.

Cheers

Jay
