Not zed related but a warning anyway, did a favour for a business buddy today whilst he was having a meeting with a relative of his who had arrived in a poorly Vauxhall Astra.

Basically poor idle (Mmm.... sound familiar) poor throttle response and increase in petrol cosumption.

The car had been looked over by a kwik fit centre in London who had advised her that it required either new points, clean out the carb or both!

This is an M registered 1.6 Ecotek engine no points and fuel injection!!!! Jeeeeeez and these people change brakes on customers cars!

Basic service, Oil, filters, plugs and tb clean soon had it purring nicely, and the killer the parts only came to £18...total doh!

I know some one who worked for Kwik Fit and they said that they are told my management to push for things that are not really needed. Frighten people into having new shock by saying its making the car unsafe.

When I had an Astra I went to get 2 new tyres and dispite there advert saying 10 mins per wheel I was there for 40 mins they told me that my discs where below the min level, and fair doos they where, but I was quoted £190 for to job of 2 front discs and change front pads. I went over to halfords and bought the every thing for £60 and a hour later they it was done.

We also had family Sierra there an exhaust change as no one had the time to do it. 3 years later it needed another one and took it some where else where we were told that the exhaust on it was the wrong one, it was for an Escort 1.6 or something. FFS!

Wouldnt trust them as far as I could throw them.

I remember a few years back, a sierra (which was a taxi) come in for an MOT, it failed on a few items including front shock absorbers & a front wheel bearing.

the owner decided to have the shocks done at Kwick Krap cos they were cheaper, but to have the rest of the mechanical work done by us.

so off he went, had them fitted, & come back for the wheel bearing etc to be done.

my mate who was doing the job, went to undo the pinch bolt that holds the hub to the shock absorber, & it just broke off - with very little effort.

he took the broken bit of bolt out to find that they had sheared it off when doing the damper & just stuffed it back in the hole with exhaust paste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
