Smell of Antifreeze and drip!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guy's

Help!!

For the past week or so i have had a faint smell of Antifreeze first thing in the morning, once the heater comes on it goes.

Anyway today i smell it and also see a drop of dirty water/Antifreeze on my carpet on both the passenger and driver's side.

What has happened and more importanly how much is it gonna cost to fix.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers Dave.

Sounds like you might need to read the thread below about the heater matrix. I sometimes think I smell anifreeze too but so far nothing on the carpet.

It must be catching!

Heater matrix!

If it was just on the passenger side I would suggest checking the overflow pipe is actually stuck through the side firewall of the footwell but if it's starting on both sides I would say the matrix or a connecting pipe is on the way out!

Same here mate, i have smelt antifreeze faintly for about the last two weeks.

But no dampness or leaks anywhere.

Then this morning the windscreen started to steam up!!!!!

On the way home this afternoon went round a right hand corner and caught a drip on the floormat passenger side.

When i got home had a good look and there is a drip each side and it feels wet around the heater plastics under the dash!!!.

Cheers Dave.

its not the end of the world, it sounds like what happened to me and it was the matrix, cost 150 for parts from nissan and will prob cost you similar in labour hth

Happened to me too. New heater matrix £58 from Motorads of Redditch.

Bloody hell that's cheap!

I was told that it was monster labour charges to strip the dash back to get to it in the first place.

Cost me a fortune via Nelson! :D

Yeah, thats what I thought, esspecially after a quote of £45 + VAT fo a second hand one.

The labour can be high, it took me 4 hours to get mine out then about the same to put it back. But I'm not a mechanic and I labeled each cluster of wire's, taped the fasteners to the item removed from and had several coffe breaks !.

You can do it without removing the dashboard, but on manuals (like mine) you have to remove the pedal box.

Jef T at Z-World has just done one like that.
