Argh! Stupid Sky+!

My second (in six months, first one lasted two weeks!) Sky+ box has just died (no longer responds to the remote, even after reboot etc etc)..

Great.. Now I have to run the gauntlet of Sky customer services, and get messed about trying to get an engineer out

Ah well. Just wanted to say that! Not having much luck with electronic goods at the moment (seeing as my new, new, Nokia 6610, which replaced my dead 7210, has the same problems as the 7210 too!)

TiVo, TiVo - ha !

Actually the remotes are renowned for munching batteries, so that may be something to do with it.

Have a look on the TiVo Forum, I know it's not strictly Sky+ but they must be similar under the skin.

Dreambox, motorised dish and funcards and programmers oh yessireee indeed;)

Good point Andy - I didn't try batteries, although I did try another remote (you can make the old Sky remotes control the Sky+ box - well, channel changing, at least)..

And Glen.. Shurrup :P :) Showoff... ;)

sky boxes are quite possibly the worst electrical products ive ever seen. We've had 3 boxes, the one we have now blew up outaside warranty so paid to have it fixed with uprated parts which will not blow up for no reason. The first one blew up during a storm, when it came back on it wouldnt get any signal, the second one also went during a storm, this time it was plugged in via a surge proof strip, same thing, no signal, the 3rd time it blew up simply after unplugging it and plugging it back in. Sky's excuses about surges just dont wash, the thing is plugged in with a surge protector, and besides that theres tonned of other stuff in the house that doesnt have protection that is not affected.

This may help

hmm, interesting link Jeff

The tuner module is prone to failure, giving "no signal" message with signal and/or quality indication bars bouncing randomly on-screen. Tuner modules are available for the DRX100 on an exchange basis. This is definitely a workshop job. Note that this "no signal" message can have other causes occasionally!

that is th part which was replaced with an uprated one (presume from another manufacturers box:confused: )

The ones at work are forever overheating.

Could that be the problem?

It could have been the heat that eventually killed mine - I think the IR receiver module has died in the box (as the remote still works the TV etc, and another remote no longer works the Sky+ box).. But yeah, they do all run really hot - people actually make fan kits for the old Sky boxes (the Sky+ ones have a fan in already)..

Bl**dy things!

I'm going back to living in a cave :)

One possibility is that you have another remote that's constantly emitting IR and that's effectively jamming the IR to the Sky+.

I've had it happen before with a stereo that stopped responding to the remote and then I found one of my other (of many) remotes was jammed under the sofa and one of the buttons was being pressed constantly. I removed it and the stereo started responding again.

It's unlikely to be that, but it's worth tracking down all of your remotes and seeing if any of them are responsible! :)

Ahem.. Unlikely? Erm.. Ahem.. :o Apparently not that unlikely!

Oops.. Tracked down one remote that was under a laptop..

Hold down any button - no effect - except for the button that happened to be held down..

Tum de dum.. Erm.. Yes.. I'll get me coat! :D

Thanks!

LMFAO :D:D:D:D:D:D
